no ... as long as its a new rope and stored properly

The rope I received from them was made in 2010. Even if it was 09, or 08 I wouldn't worry.

Edelweiss's site doesn't have any specific info but Beal says on their site that ropes can be stored up to 5 years before being used for 10 more. You'll wear it out way before it's too old.

Plus for the price even if it only lasts a year no big deal, but most reviews I read of the Ally were that it was a long lasting rope.

Thanks for all the input. I decided to go with the Mammut Supernova. Something about the efelweiss just made me uncomfortable(not knowing exactly how it was stored) and i figure if i have any doubts on the ground i dont want those doubts in the back of my mind when im on the rock. I sure it is a fine rope tho. Thanks for all the help!

Should have gone with the edelweiss in my opinion. If it is in plastic then not many chemicals could have gotten to it, and was certainly not stored outside in the sunlight. Edelweiss makes great ropes.

I have an Eidelweiss Axis 10.3 that was my only rope last season. Held up really well to a bunch of crag days both tr and lead until I had a little tibloc mishap (self-facepalm) and now there's a really fuzzy 18" section. Only complaint is it seemed to get dirty really quickly despite dilligent use of a tarp.

I had that rope for a couple years. At $120, it's a great deal for an all purpose 10mm rope.
It handled/felt great, and was very durable.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
