This is part of Adidas's big push back into the outdoor sports segment. You'll probably see more clothing with a 5.10 brand but the capital investment should help R&D as well.

I was wondering how they were going to do the climbing shoe thing. I guess this explains it. Their athletes had everything, in the way of softgoods, as Adidas and now Five Ten shoes will round that out. Should be interesting to see what Adidas tries to have Five Ten do. Whether that means keeping them as technical footwear only or something else. Adidas' trail runners so far are pretty sick and are comparable to a lot of Salomon's stuff. We'll see what happens.

PrAna was sold to Liz Claiborne, not Donna Karan.

I doubt much will change with 5.Ten, but then again you never really know. I suspect there will be more "lifestyle" shoe models in an attempt to recreate something like Nike's failed ACG brand, but I doubt that the climbing shoes themselves will suffer.

Just so they don't screw up the good rubber and shoes......don't need Adidas stripes on them either please.

It's just a sub-brand. Just as you don't see General Electric's logo on the front gates of Univeral Studios or Nike swooshes on Converse All-Stars, you aren't going to see Adidas stripes on 5.Ten shoes.

Disney owns and operates ABC, who in turn owns 80% of ESPN. We don't see Micky Mouse running around on SportsCenter now do we? Corporations are always buying each other. Some people will get rich, Five Ten products will stay the same.

Edited to add: I kind of like the stripes.

i hope that adidas helps Five Ten solve it's sizing issues that have been known to be a little random.

Also, I hope they help them fix the toe box in the mens black wings. Everyone I talk to with different feet has the same problem.

Not gonna happen. Why would anyone from Adidas know anything about toe boxes in climbing shoes? Maybe the Huber bros will help out?

Adidas own Arc'teryx as well.

A year or 2 ago Prana was sold back to the original owners (or at least a group including them). Liz Claiborne bought them as part of a big expansion and then collapsed as a brand. If I remember correctly they are now a "JC Penny Exclusive".

Throughout all of the change of ownership it did not seem like Prana changed at all (this coming from the standpoint of a clothing buyer for a store). They were still a funky company which makes cool clothes that continue to not fit my pudgy 40 something self.

Pretty standard sell-out. The lure of big money. Unfortunately the big conglomerates lose touch with the needs of small niche industries. Money and marketing has never provided an equal substitute for on-the-ground grassroots passion that 'creates' inspiring companies. Take for instance the sellout of Cloudveil...they now churn out some of the shittiest product quality and customer service in the industry. Oh well, maybe it is the continued story of why a majority of our country has lost the passion to create innovative, U.S. made products with high integrity.

Maybe they can fix the funky Anasazi heel. Really, at least one of the 30 Anasazi variants could be made to fit those without bulbous calcaneus.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
