Why don't we use a climbing community liaison to accept donations sufficient to pay for a rental car that Unified PD could use as a bait car? I mean, if the police like busting douchebags, this is a simple op they could execute and raise their busted/not-busted ratio with some basic covert surveillance. I mean, it'd take some effort to sit in the woods, watch, etc., but what incentive do the police have to bump up the priority on this activity in the canyon? We have to give them/identify the incentive for them. From the law enforcement perspective, they don't have enough manpower/funding to make it a priority. Do any of the canyon coalitions/residents/resorts (people with influence) have a more than apathetic or barely sympathetic opinion on the matter?
hahahahahaha is this a joke???

you realize there is a unfried police car in the moonbeam parking lot every weekday afternoon. usually the cop is napping..... I took a picture of the cop one day, trying to see if it was always the same cop or at least have proof that a cop sits there every day. i got pulled over on i215 that same day, they said someone called me as a suspected drunk driver coming down big. I even asked the cop if it was because i took a picture of his buddy, luckily i was stone cold sober.... there's no money in stopping the smash n bash, there's no good publicity either. nothing beats drug busts and dui's, there super easy most of the time.

next time, tell the cops there's major drug trafficking going down. then they'll show up. or hand them a bust like mmcfarland. otherwise, unfried and cottonwood heights po po don't give a shit, catching smash n bash is too much work to be bothered with.

but seriously, there is always at least one unfried cop in both canyons and one FS cop roaming around. but they're only there to stop safety meetings

Another broken window on a Subaru Outback parked below Crescent Crack in LCC Friday around noon. Not my car, so I have no idea what was taken.

I think I'm just going to leave my windows partially open, my doors unlocked, and a sign on the dashboard. "Doors unlocked and no valuables inside."

Over the past couple of years of hearing about so many of these breakins, I've started doing the same, except for the sign on the dashboard. If criminals want to root around my van and steal some empty beer cans or dirty socks, they're welcome to them.

We climbed Guert's ridge this last weekend and EVERY space in the Mt. Olympus trail head lot has a pile of glass in it and I mean a PILE. Multiple windows broken.
In addition to the posts here I know of at least half a dozen other break-ins this summer as well.

I moved here from NYC where we would permanently leave a "Nothing in Car" sign on the dash. It sucks but have started doing it here when we climb. My worry is these F*&ks can't read.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
