For immediately gratification, check out climbingweather.com/mobile or search for ‘Climbing Weather’ in the App Store. Read the full story below!

Last fall we launched an Android version of ClimbingWeather.com and the response was very positive. People loved having climbing weather forecasts in their pocket and at the crag. We received a ton of requests to build an iPhone version. That version is now available!

The CW Mobile iPhone version ‘soft’ launched two weeks ago with only a few announcements so we could do some low-key field testing. Last night we released a small update that fixes a several small issues and provides backwards compatibility to older iPhone versions. This version is full-featured and stable.

Like the Android version, the iPhone version has the following:

- Daily and hourly forecasts for US climbing areas
- Find nearby areas using your current location
- View area maps
- View areas listed by state
- Store favorite areas for quick reference

It’s been a busy last year, with a new baby boy (now 15 months) and now plans to move to Salt Lake City from Fayetteville. Thanks everybody for support of the website! I’ll continue to do my best to roll out features that you ask for as quickly as possible!

What can you do for us? Download the app, give it a rating if you like it, send us feedback through the website about how we can make it even better. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

Enjoy!

Works great! Love it.

Took me a second to figure out how to add sites to the favorites list ... click on the star, of course.

Nice, Curtis!

Oh, and I think having some instructions on the favorites screen when it first loads empty might help folks see how they are supposed to use it. I just realized that it is completely blank if you have no favorites.

Can you add international weather as well?

Just downloaded the Droid app. Thanks for including the High Sierra.

Jon, congrats on this. The app is very well done! I have the old 3g version and it loads and responds very fast. Took me a second to figure out how to add favorites too... but no big deal on that one.

I've had very good performance and no crashes or slow behavior yet. Superb! Kicks the pants off the weather channel app

Thanks for the feedback!

@doug Awesome! I'm equally psyched to make this available to folks

@brent I'd like to add international weather at some point, but for now I'm just focusing on US. It's much harder to get accurate forecasts internationally, although I'll likely add Canada then Europe, which have forecast systems similar to US. I'll keep folks posted as international forecasts evolve.

@fossana Definitely. If there are any other areas you would like to see, you can add them through ClimbingWeather.com

@gif I was holding off on the announcement until I could test and make compatible with the older iphones. One of my co-workers would kind enough to donate her old iphone running ios 3.1, so I made it compatible with that. Noticed a couple of very minor layout issues on the listing pages but shouldn't notice any overall functionality problems on older iphones.

This is my bro! Awesome work on the mobile apps. Jon really has a passion and is a phenomenal software developer. When he told me he was going to develop some mobile apps for his website, I had no doubt that he would produce something great.

I have had the climbing weather app for a while now. Great app and highly recommend it. The favorites feature is nice, and the map feature is pretty cool too.

Out of curiosity, what is your source forecast service for the app? On my home computer I usually use NWS point forecast for specific areas, which seems to be fairly accurate. I've noticed some difference on your app forecasts (not saying it's better or worse, just different).

Again, great app. Keep up the good work.

This is a really cool an helpful app, but I really don't like what it's showing me for the weather outlook this weekend.

Is there anyway to fix/update the app so this weekend's forecast looks nicer around the Denver/Boulder area?

Much appreciated,

Bob

@bro thanks for the support!

@craig I briefly considered that idea and then heeded my inner commie and made it free - hope to get some revenue soon by way of sponsors, though

@bawls thanks!

@ben I use the NWS National Digital Forecast Database (NDFD) although I use a slightly different algorithm for summarizing the data that comes in different time segments (3, 6 and 12 depending on the data element)

@bob hah! how about a 'skew the weather in my favor' option that you can use to show partners that might be considering bailing on account of the weather :) next up - an app that controls the weather - may have to charge for that one, though

Wow, cool app, thanks! I'd never seen the website before but that's a great idea! If I ever run into you at the crag the after-climb beers are on me!

This app rocks for showing showing the weather forecast and has replaced weatherbug for me. However, what I really want to do is edit the weather. Anyway to move a rainy day on Saturday to a Monday or move the temperature up or down on a given day? I can't seem to find that feature.

THis is great! i have a suggestion. The weather only tells part of the story. How about ground conditions. perhaps have a section or a comment board, or a survey that locals can fill out or post on about conditions. for example... the weather at lovers leap looks great today but there is no way for me to know if access is snowy or if the decent has snow or ice (it does). This would make this the best app ever, i would even pay for that (though not more than, say, 99 cents).

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
