Does anyone know of any non-profits in the Boulder/Denver metroplex that could benefit from lightly used climbing, hiking, or camping gear?

REI has the drop box at the store for used outdoor gear. I think that donations go to an internal REI run stewardship program, but it may be with another organization as well. I bet a quick call to the store you could find out for sure.

Maybe a place to start?

You could try the Cottonwood Institute

Any other ideas? Any youth-oriented programs? I'm willing to ship what I've got.

Big City Mountaineers is based out of Denver. I've been volunteering with them over the past few seasons. They might take it.

If you're interested in shipping, Adventure 16 runs a non-profit that collects gear and gets it to kids:

Donate A Pack Foundation

They take all sorts of stuff. I shipped them a 20lb box last month and they were very appreciative.

The REI donation idea above led to this:

Homeless Gear

Sounds worthy. Thanks for the other ideas.

PHOENIX MULTISPORT

This is an amazing non-profit. They are local CO and are just finishing up the Ouray Ice trip. They do all kinds of great things. Mainly climbing Which you can be apart of for free at BRC i think on friday nights.

Was riding the bus in Boulder yesterday morning and noticed that a few of the (intoxicated) transients riding along seemed to have exceptionally expensive packs and sleeping bags, from companies like Golite, etc. No doubt they are the beneficiaries of outdoor gear donation programs. Besides, those rucksacks have plenty of room for necessities like drugs, alcohol and cardboard signs.

good call - contact the local Scout Council or find out the scoutmaster of the local troop.
