I am moving to Orlando from Utah. I am sad to leave the glorious mountains but have to, and now, I am desperate to locate the nearest outdoor climbing. I don't care how far I have to drive, I am sure it will be worth it.
Also,I could use a skilled partner.

I think your closest and best bet would be somewhere in Georgia. I lived in Orlando and Tallahassee and there is really nothing in FL climbing-wise except for gyms (unfortunately!) Good luck to you!!

Bad situation. You will be driving 9-10 hrs to reach climbing, but when you do you will have lots of options in north Georgia, NC, TN etc. I would have sympathy but I am in same boat.

Tennessee has a lot of climbing, and its probably the closest to you. You cna also look at the Carolina`s. If you`re into bouldering Hore Pens 40 is in alabama.

Alabama has alot to offer the intrepid. Well represented on this site.

Or get Mr. Barnes to take you to Tallulah in NE GA.

wow, i could never imagine that scenario that would take me away from the mountains, no person, job (pay me 6 figures, and I would take 4 to stay here in the mountains!!!), or nearly anything that would take me away from the mountains!!! I just wouldn't do it!! nothing is worth taking you from the mountains, IF you Loved them enough, That is!!!! But I guess it depends on your overall goals in life.... Go surfing then, or saltwater flyfishing..... LOL... Sorry, I guess not very constructive, but, saying.... I would never accept something that I didn't want.... Life is too short!!!

Walk into what you want, not what you feel you have to accept!!!

my two pennies... find a sand dollar, and make some change..LOL

Why head north? Cuba is only90 miles away.

I moved from CO to FL about 5 years ago. I just gave up on climbing so I wouldn't be frustrated.

There's actually a LOT of limestone in FL, too bad it's all underground. I took up cave diving instead and had a lot of fun exploring the caves.

Happy to be back in the west though. Going climbing this morning!

Best of luck.

Pay no attention to these naysayers. There's everything you could possibly want short of snow/ice and alpine. From cragging, steps from the car, to multi-mile-approach, 10-pitch outings and everything in between. Did anyone mention year-round camping/climbing?

...Plus insane humidity and lots of annoying bugs!!! LOL!!! Good luck. Try getting in to surfing. I used to surf till I moved out to CO from NY. I miss the ocean but don't want to return back east!!

Wow. I never thought I'd see my home town recommended as a climbing destination.

North, just head anywhere north of Florida and you will run into something from Alabama, Georgia and up. Toughest part is the half a day drive needed just to escape Florida!

Yeah, yeah...that's called Summer. That's when you climb half the day then take to the river, the bar, or the motorcycle and explore the other good offerings of the SE.

The rest of the year, those other nine months, are full of pleasingly moderate conditions and, again, the remainder of your year-round climbing opportunities.

Seems like I've seen a website a number of years ago for the Florida Flatlanders folks. They had good beta on climbing within driving distance as well as trips for folks.

Having a motivated crew to split up the driving would be a good thing.

Good luck!
