Me and my friends are looking to do some slot canyons in southern Utah for our graduation trip. We're not looking for anything terribly technical, but we would like some repels, water, or both. We either want one that will take several days, or several canyons that are pretty close to each other. We're planning on our trip being about 4 days long. If we can find one with good hiking/biking/climbing close by then that would be even better. We're totally willing to get a permit to do anything cool. We don't want to be surrounded by hoards of moms and their families on summer vacation.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I second Tom's page and Bogley. Stay away from Zion if you don't like families. Try the North Wash. And I hate to be that guy - but it's "rappel".

Go to zions web page. there is road construction going on. I heard Pine creek, Spry and Keyhole will be closed. No Parking. Expect longer delays going thru the tunnel. Hope this helps you. I was going in June but now decided to go elsewhere.

Tom's site is good, so is bogley, I used climb utah at first and found it pretty good also. I'd recommend the north wash area for sure, all the leprechauns are good (just finished them all off this weekend with middle lep). There are alot of easy options around there, not to mention your really not that far from the roost(depending on how far back you plan on going in the roost that is) or the swell, poision springs, the maiden water/ trail area, the black hole area(cedar mesa? either way it's the glen canyon rec area). Keep us posted and post up the TR's.

Here's a little teaser for mine, keep your eyes peeled for the TR.

nice little downclimb.

good light narrow slot.

Great light!

I'll throw out the Swell as a good choice as well. Interesting canyons, usually solitude, and great primitive camping. A day or two in north wash, a day or two in the swell would be a good trip to see a variety of canyons.

You gotta check out Alcatraz...if only for the rappel off of your car in the beginning. It's also a pretty good starter canyon, without many technical parts.

I'm not much of a canyoneer, but a number of years ago some friends and I did a loop down Quandary Canyon and back up Ramp Canyon in the San Rafael Swell (this is on Tom's page). This was truly one of the most incredible trips of my life--so beautiful and remote. There is some rappelling in Quandary canyon, but nothing too bad if you avoid the direct route at the bottom. Ramp canyon has a 5.4 R section on the way back up but is otherwise non-technical. I'm sure there is much more to do around there too.

Kia, I highly recommend doing Mystery Canyon in Zion! It's unforgettable at the very end you rappel off a tall cliff/waterfall into the Narrows....LOVED IT! I plan to do it this summer - just need to find a partner to do it with.

Probably on summer break or the trip right now...but...in case not...

Pretty sure access to canyoneering in Mystery is closed right now due to spring run off and that the Virgin flow is over 120cfs.

Best place to camp in ZNP is the only place to camp? South and Watchman Campgrounds. My bet is that Lava Point is still under snow.
