Amazing. I wonder how those packrats got those Douglas Fir and pine trees up there? Most have been very big and powerful rodents, huh.

The large and ancient packrat midden at the end of the first pitch, with collected samples designated. This midden turned out to be more than 30,000 years old, and contained needles of Douglas fir, limber pine, white fir, and many other species that are only found much higher in elevation today.
