Actually, I don't eat mutton, lamb, or beef. Yet that's completely beside the point. I don't care if you raise animals, but Buy your own pasture land to graze them. You really expect me to subsidize ranchers, whose heards do real, lasting and substaintial damage to public lands and then sit back and smile when the same land agencies want to tell me that going climbing on that same land is somehow a giant ecological issue. Sorry, not buying it.

I don't know where you live or work, but I've seen quite enough destruction of public lands via public grazing in southern Utah. Take a walk around the tops of Boulder Mtn, Thousand Lakes Mtn, the San Rafael desert east of Cap Reef and get back to me.

I have no doubt that they're destructive, I've seen it too, I worked primarily with agriculture during my grad degree. And I understand your argument with the NC, but there is probably more to the story on the ranchers side than meets the eye and until you have been making a living in their shoes - it's easy to criticize. People do it with farmers all the time - complain and freak out about fertilizers and pesticides, but they don't really understand what goes into farming....

Anyway, to me it came across a bit harsh and misdirected - but I understand your frustration...

Even though you are a vegetarian, I agree. I am a fourth generation rancher (and climber) and if you are going to have livestock, you need your "own" land. Most of the grazing subsidies are given to huge livestock companies that can afford thier own land anyway. I welcome my Colorado friends to come climb! Just bring some of that "Fat Tire" to share!

when i was a kid i was a big hayduke fan, but when i grew up i realized that i probably shouldn't idolize a guy who drove around in a jeep, throwing beer cans out the window at a 'safe and sane 55 miles per hour'.

The Alaskans already do.
Q: You know what pisses Texans off the most about Alaska?
A: If you cut it in half, there would be TWO states bigger than Texas!

Photo of the lot. Much smaller than I thought it would be based on the comments in this thread. Looks like it'll be a great resource for the area.

New parking lot at the Creek.

The outrage!!!! Green platers!!! Nausea!!!

i will leave the color of the plates out of this story although i'm sure you could guess anyways but, i once wintessed a honda accord bottom out on the 12" high lip that seperated the gravel from the pavement with both front wheels completely off the ground! it took 10 people to lift it off and get him on his way.

The new lot is wonderful. Outhouses too?
Hooray for the BLM and THANK YOU!

I also agree with MIYG's idea for a sign: "Greenplates park here."
Coloradans should get the best parking spaces since they discovered Indian Creek.

parts of colorado were already part of Texas once.......

As far as popularity, its already done! Quit crying and go climb with the masses or go way into the desert and be by yourself. Its that simple

As with any/all issues we all have an opinion.

Thank god for this country and the fact that we have freedom of speech.

I started visiting IC in the mid 80s and clearly have seen lots of changes through the years, some I like, most I dont. But there is not a whole lot we can do about it. More and more people are enjoying the outdoors and we have to find ways to accommodate everyone.

As for the new parking lot..... well IC is not just for climbers, and I must say that it makes me happy when for example people with disabilities have a safe and flat are to park on, so they can get out of their vehicles and enjoy the scenery, when photographers and other artists have a place to park so they can enjoy nature just like us climbers, when my terminally ill family members can join me for a day at the creek, perhaps their last day spent with me in the outdoors.

We all have an opinion, but just remember that the area is not just for us climbers.......

Thanks for the lot BLM- good job. Climbing is a growing sport and all the best area's, not just IC, are seeing more traffic. And since many cant manage themselves(unfortunately) its appreciated you do. It was NEEDED and now its here. Good Job.

All the ranters and ravers- seriously? This "its for hardcore climbers and locals only" mentality is frikkin juvenile and ridiculous. Grow up. Its an outdoor recreation area availiable to ANY who want to go there, for whatever they want to do. The whole "green plates" deal is an idiocracy. Sadly, Zeke is the King. This thread alone shows why the climbers user group has such troubles- elitist and closed minded attitudes. Start being part of the solution and quit adding to the problem.

Ill meet you in the parking lot- I can take a dump and then we can carpool. Climb On!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
