In SLC, I prefer either Crowne or Apollo Burger. And although there's not much cragging around Hungry Horse, MT, the Packer Burger from The Packer's Roost merits at least one visit a year if you're in the area. Two half pound patties of beef, 1/4 pound of Canadian bacon, four slices of real bacon, several slices of cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and an egg, all for $9. Bring a hungry friend.

For me, they've all been burgers on the drive home to LA after a long day or weekend in the Sierra: The Ranch House in Olancha, just south of Lone Pine after a couple one day ascents of Whitney. In-N-Out in Lancaster, also after some long days/weekends. I used to arrive home feeling really famished but found that if I stopped for a cheeseburger and fries, I and my stomach would be feeling good by the time I got home.
I love the Ranch House!

Burgers at the Whitney Portal Store are good too, especially when you're too hungry to wait until you get to Olancha!

There's a place in Whitney Portal (don't remember the name) that had some absolutely fabulous burgers. So good to stuff our faces in the sun after 6 days of frigid wind up on Mt. Whitney and Russell. Can anyone recall the name of this place?

On the way out of Joshua Tree in Morongo Valley on the 62 is the Happy Cooker. Try "The Wetback" just the right combo of grease and more grease!

Wow...I didn't know racist items could still be found on menus. I guess I have to hit some more greasy spoons.

Best burger I ever had was in the West Rib Bar & Grill in Talkeetna. Probably due more to circumstances than the actual quality of the meal.

When heading home from Moab, I always stop at Ray's Tavern in Green River Utah. Burgers and steaks to die for.

After a weekend at Seneca or a day at Franklin Gorge, Jess' Lunch in Harrisonburg has great cheeseburgers!

Larkburger in Boulder. It's environmentally correct Boulder at its eye-rolling best, but the burgers are sooooo good.
