I just moved back to LI. I was living in Utah for a while. I sure miss the amazing climbing. It would be great to meet other climbers or surfers on the island. I would be down to take climbing trips all over.

Hey man. Have you have a chance to check out any of the gyms in the area yet? Where exactly on LI are you?

Only gym I know of on LI is Island Rock and I just was there this past week. It's terrible, and I mean that in the nicest way possible. It's small, very poor routesetting (their idea of making a climb harder is only to increase the distance between holds - nothing creative whatsoever), lots of missing tape (or maybe they were just 5.8 routes with six foot dynos), gotta supply your own lead rope, etc, etc...

For your time, your best bet is to grab the LIRR into Brooklyn to climb at Brooklyn Boulders. If you have a car, there are 2 gyms in Northern NJ worth checking out - NJ Rock Gym (if you like super steep, overhanging lead routes) or Gravity Vault (if you like big, tall bouldering). There are also 2 good gyms in Westchester - The Rock Club and Valhalla Cliffs. TRC is better.

But in all seriousness - just go to the Gunks. Drive time is going to be exactly the same.

Brooklyn Boulders is fun; although, I like going up. Yea, the Gunks are where its at. I am glad Im going to the Daks next weekend. I cant hold back.

If you`re headed to Brooklyn Boulders you might as well travel the extra 25 min to The Rock Club in New Rochelle. Brooklyn boulders is focused mainly on just that, bouldering....if thats your thing thats cool. But it can get more crowded than the Gunks on the weekends..Elbow to elbow. The Rock Club`s focus is TR and Lead with a smaller bouldering area and IMO is way more layed back climbrockclub.com/

Must be tough being a climber going from Utah to a Sand dune of an island

I'm wondering too... I'm from there. There is some pretty good bouldering on glacial erratics. but if you don't live close to them, it's probably not worth it. If you have to travel far, off the Island is the way to go...

When your a climber, you will always find a way to get up there....... I found this wall at Jones Beach today. Basically, its rocks cemented together. Its not trad, but its still rad. Yea the Utah- NY thing is crazy. Anyway, the surf has been going off. So, its not to bad. I am about to establish some cool lines on this wall. All are welcome Just send me a PM.
