Uh...tips for preventing crotch chafe?

Big hike/scramble planned this weekend. Woot! But sometimes moving fast for long periods on the mountain causes uncomfortable chafing and raw tenderness in the upper inner thigh area, also known as the crotch.

Anyone have beta for prevention? Quick googling brought up specialized gels and roll-ons and plain ol' vaseline, as well as powders and corn starch. At battle-marching pace I'm a sweaty machine, so it seems powders would just muddy up and turn to paste.

I turn to you, great MP community. What do you do?

Consult your local bike store. This is a comman problem for cyclists, also known as monkey butt.

Chamois butt'r is the stuff most cyclists use, I've heard good things. AKA grundle grease, taint paint, among other choice names.

Talcum or baby powder works good, just don't over do it.

Dry, I can see. But hard to imagine it mixes well with high effort and heavy sweat.

While I've never needed or used it for hiking, I've used Vaseline on 100 mile bike rides with good success.

Some runners use BodyGlide to avodi this. I find it works okay for me on long runs.

I have friends that suffer from swetty satch syndrome. They swear by Gold Bond medicated powder. Luckily I do not share this problem.

The maturity level in this forum is shocking. What's going on Mountain Project?

Many Appalachian Trail thru hikers use Vagisil. When I did the JMT i wore a mountain hardware kilt for that purpose. merino wool boxer briefs help too.

That powder is a real product...I did not entirely mean to be immature.

Maybe folks are just getting tired of the, everyone's a comedian thing. 90% of the time, the stuff not even funny.

I've used like the sports authority type spandex brief thingies. Form fitting and cover more of your leg which reduces rubbing.

Oh and monkey butt...huh huh, huh huh.

BodyGlide is the same thing as your solid antiprespirant stick, just slightly glorified and priced up. Hikers and backpackers have been putting on anti-prespirant on the soles of their feet to prevent blisters for a long time. Just get one of those unscented ones like "Sure".

Thanks so far everyone.

About the maturity...heh. I am a little surprised at the absence of jabs and ribaldry along with the help I knew would come, but only a little. MPers are a pretty smart and witty bunch. An undefended target big enough for a 5-year old to slam just isn't very enticing.

Yes, but 10% of the time, it's funny every time.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
