Great pic, first one I see that shows the commitment factor on that pitch. Also good topo-like shot, you can clearly see the line vs. the Dark Horse variation. If you're gonna do the Fin Arete keep this one in mind...

The rock where the climber is in the photo is some of LCC's best! Could somewone who knows this route better than i verify that he is finishing up the aqualine (sp?) or darkhorse ending variation?

Dark Horse var. traverses right at the roof, pulls it (around where the 2 chickenheads are) and follows the shallow corner (past a bolt? can't remember) to the bolted anchor in the scoop on the arete. Last pitch goes straight up the arete and is quite R due to the missing chickenhead.
Aqualine what? Looks like the original line based on the topo... maybe BSmoot can chime in.
The GRK variation is also visible and goes climbers left straight up to the uppermost notch in the arete, eschewing all gear/bolts.

Thanks frenchie, I am fairly certain there is a bolt right near the climber in this photo-it protects a mantle/standup move. Aftet the bolt one gains the arete and shortly after the belay stance (scoop) you speak of. That last pitch is quite a rope stretcher with 1 bolt and slingable chicken heads (as I remember), and quite easy climbing. I think i belayed at the lateral fin anchor, (barely made it with a 70m) and then had to scrambled down and west to a ledge system that hides the rap anchor in its north side. 70 worked best for th rap. If this final pitch is where bsmoot was trying to get Kim Miller to go up and add a bolt where an old chickenhead broke off...I'd say its not necessary.

I think the missing chickenhead used to protect the 5.8 section between the bolted anchor you see (straight above the notch in the DH roof) and the anchor in the scoop. That part is steeper than anything on the last pitch and the crystals look brittle for some reason (fear??).

The climber in the photo is on the Fin Arete. It looks like he skipped the 2nd bolt, which used to be the second pitch belay.

The broken chickenhead is on the arete just below the belay where the 2 routes merge.
