Closures in Red Rock on Tuesday 6/1/10; from today's news.

MICHELLE OBAMA, HARRY REID: Red Rock visitors center to be closed during Michelle Obama visit

LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL The visitor center at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area will be closed to the public for several hours Tuesday to accommodate a visit by first lady Michelle Obama.

Officials from the Bureau of Land Management, which manages the conservation area, said the center will be closed to the public from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to accommodate a 2:45 p.m. event with Obama and U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev.

The scenic loop, a popular driving route through the conservation area, will remain open to the public. But the first three parking pulouts on the road- Calico 1, Calico II, and Sandstone Quarry- will be off limits from 6:30 AM-4:30 PM.

Hmm, the first three pullouts off limits?... I wonder if they'll be counting bolts.

Gri Gri, that's obviously to prevent us gun toting climber type anti-Democrat deviant sharp shooters from setting up a perch in the Calico Hills with a scoped sniper rifle and a clean shot at the visitors center. OR maybe Sen. Reid has a sweet sport route in mind that he wants to show off to Mrs. Obama.

But thanks for the heads up news. Should be helpful for visiting out of town climbers who may not have heard.

closing the first 3 pullouts will not stop people from walking over the top from Calico Basin. Oops, I should have kept my mouth shut.

typical libral BULLSHIT! They think they can do whatever they want whenever they want wherever they want. these are MY public lands and they have no right to keep me out. I say we sneak in and climb anyway.

'Off to Red Rock... The first three pullouts are for you woman, they don't call you "The Closer" for nothing.'
'Harry, your hands look mighty rough; have you been stroking big bros, and scrambling a lot lately?'

Remember boys; Don't be wearing all yo pimpin prAna duds, and Do-Rags dissing Harry. Dat good-ol-boy Nevada dude will pop a cap in yo ass if you be talkin da climber dialect, shittin on rocks, and shit bro, bra, brau, brother man. He say his wife, and him owns two pieces, y'all.

Disclaimer: I haven't had my first cup of coffee yet.

  • Bump for the Tuesday Red Rock closures.

You must be being sarcastic. Yes, must be. Otherwise your post would be embarrassing for you.

mr montgomery. Yeah they did it just to piss you off, and the rest of the right win crowd.... Lol laughable at best. Like you're that important..... They have done that for many 'dignitaries', both democrats and republicans, that go to 'open' places like that. You guys are funny.....

Don't you just love photo ops?
I really love it when they spend our tax money for their upcoming campaign props (or, in this case, Reid's).

Michelle wouldn't know the difference between a willow and an oak, yet she's going to attend a Junior Rangers gig following her redi support tour - if it weren't so painful, it'd be damn funny.

They have to set something up at a relatively healthy conservation area to balance all of the shit they'll be getting for their laxadasical approach to the BP catastrophe.

I know you guys are just having fun, and letting off some steam. But, the First Ladies message here was to encourage kids to get outside, and get on the rocks. I think this might be a golden opportunity to get her on our side of the fence. I would encourage you guys to start sending her emails, to express our concerns. Perhaps, there can be some real good to be salvaged from this administration after all.

How was it in Red Rock today? We avoided the potential mess, and were having too much fun at a firing range, and then enjoyed the great outdoors visiting some ancient Native American sleeping circles in a lava bed (so awesome!) at an undisclosed location in the middle of nowhere this afternoon, and evening. : )

I watched the Police Rescue (not rescue in this case) chopper scare off a couple of hikers from the top of the Calico hills back down towards Red Springs. They boogied back down the hill. I would'a run as well. Sure looked like a sniper on the starboard skid the whole time they were circling low over the tops of the hills.

Good fun actually I thought the whole debacle was rather entertaining.

No fair actually thinking. Only whining and bitching allowed here! Also, no turning lemons into lemonade. And please don't use this as an opportunity to get national recognition on the threats of the potential development in the area.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
