Am I blind, or does Durango attract a disproportionate number of totally mediocre people?
Whoever stole the biners from the anchor on Dune and Odale', you owe me twenty bucks, loser!
Anchor biners are a donation to the climbing community, not your hippy dog leash! If you are using those on your rack, you should hope you don't have to rely on any of those, as you will surely ground out on account of your undeniably wretched karma!

Neither does whining on the internet.

... and close thread. I understand you're venting, I've done the same.

Wow I am disappointed. As i remember those biners had quite the rope slot carved into them. Who would want that anyways! Maybe you we need to resort to zip ties to keep them in place like its neighbor Sandman. Plus considering Tim only spends "Less than 2% of the proceeds from 'durango sandstone' go to overall improvement of these climbing areas" that 40 bucks and 2 'biners is all we get!!

Sorry if I am whining and venting. My intent is to let people know how lame it is to steal equipment and compromise anchors. I am hoping, maybe, to shame some loser into putting that anchor back together so it will work as designed.

Believe it or not: No. It's a sad commentary, but the rest of the world is just as "dumb or dumber." You can never underestimate man's potential for stupidity.

In spite of this truth, existential thought suggests we have only one alternative: to just keep going. Tim, you are a great warrior. Fight on. And don't let the bastards get you down.

No, but small liberal arts colleges in the southwest do... just kidding. Maybe we should have just drilled some old manky pins in there with single "glued" quicklinks that you have to untie for and will kink your rope. Try to do something nice for people and...

It is true that a very small percentage of people around Durango actually give something positive to the climbing community. Few people put up new routes/hardware/anchors, and the rest of the people whine for someone to "replace that pesky spinner" on Apes. Tim has a valid argument. I installed a bomber new anchor on Byrd's classic after speaking to the first ascentionist and some bozo pulled these anchors without even patching the holes. These types of actions tend to make me want to take my work and anchors further in the backcounty-away from the masses. To all of the local climbers who strive to give back, keep up the good work!!! The good thing about the preponderance of lazy hippies in Durango is that tons of rock is just sitting around for motivated individuals. Can't wait for the next first ascent!!!

Hey Terry, yeah, I realize there are chumps everywhere. In fact Durango probably has less than most. Thanks for the encouragement though.

chosspector- maybe we should invent a way to weld the biners in place and make our anchors more expensive. Better yet, lets make a force field to protect our routes from people raping from 5.7 routes to steal our gear.

Right on Jaaron. Thanks for your attempts to make our community routes better. I think we should re-install the anchors on Byrds. Maybe some glue-ins. I have recently had people approach me with expressions of gratitude for the routes that the Chosspector and I have recently installed. Even offers of donations. Maybe we should start a fund for a force field.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
