I was wondering if anyone knows about any routes up Whiteley Peak. The peak is located along Highway 40 north of Kremmling, before you get to Muddy Pass, on the east side of the Highway. I have driven the road many times and the peak looks like it has a possiblility for 300ft+ climbs. I have looked at some maps and the peak is on BLM ground but I have not been able to find any route descriptions about it. If you have any info please let me know. Thanks!
I live in Kremmling. I am probably the only climber in the area. Whiteley peak has transfered hands to private in sections. Access is the hardest because of the private landowners. However I may ask for permission being that I live here and know the families in the area. Lets check it out this summer.
I grew up in Craig and drove past this mountain ALL THE TIME wondering about routes! Please let me know if you got access!!! Always reminded me of the mountain in the Grinch Christmas.
If any of you adventurous men need a partner for climbing up there, hit me up, I live close by and also can get in contact with some of the area ranchers.
I have not heard of any routes specifically up there, but it is too close to the highway for someone not to have at least hiked the crag. The rock is a volcanic type similar to what makes up the rabbit ears. Hopefully it is of better quality...I've hiked to some other similar outcroppings in the area and have never been inspired to go back with gear.
Hi Thomas and others - Whiteley Peak is on private property with no access. It's also total choss! Better climbing to be had elsewhere unfortunately; maybe some of the cliffs above Wolford Mountain Reservoir would be better bets.
