Check with the rangers. The park may be closed by then. With the amount of precip we've been getting I wouldn't be surprised. They close before it gets rutted out. Anyway, not sure what you mean my moderate.....I guess I would suggest Russian Arete.
October through early November usually has the best temps in the canyon, unless of course you happen to be there in a particular cold spell. People tend to think the canyon is colder than it really is I think. Remember that it is not in Gunnison, CO (the coldest place in the lower 48), but closer to Montrose Co (but just a bit higher). I did The Scenic Cruise on Nov. 15 two years ago and roasted by mid day. Also, it hasn't been raining up here, and probably not in the Black either(sorry to hear about Durango wettness).

The single worse night I've ever had climbing was a forced bivi in Oct. in the Black. It rained all night and we were in slings 200 feet from the rim. Watch the weather!
