Red Rock fees going up!

I think it's a great idea to charge people to use the picnic facilities. Many of those users leave trash everywhere, play their music at absurd levels and generally make a nuisance of themselves. Charge them fifty and make them have advance reservations.
What is ridiculous is charging hikers and bikers who create zero impact for the privilege of using a poorly maintained road and even worse trail system. The fees they collect now don't stay here and the chances that these increased ones will is infinitesimal.
Killis, that was one of your weaker posts. While I generally dispise trustafarians as worthless and a drain on the system for outdoor recreation professional careers, it's not their fault they were born with a silver spoon stuck in their pie holes. Some of them are almost contributing members of society. Singling them out is too easy. It's like saying the BLM stands for Bureau of Land Mismanagement. It's a given.

I thought it was Bureau of Lumber and Mining?

Normally I enjoy reading your posts Killis, these fall far short of the poignant material you've been posting previously.
They we're probably deleted because they are personal attacks and don't address any RR climbing related issues.
Get back to the stuff that matters.

Just deleting a post is lame in my opinion. At least make a post of what/why it was deleted. I was wondering where this thread had gone to.

I am actually a firm opponent of developments of the campgrounds. Seriously, electricity, gazebos, paved road??? My view is that campground never go back to being primitive, things only get developed as time goes by since land managers try to show that they "did something for the community". In my view if you want to do something for the community, why don't you rip something out and lower the fees.
Albeit I am not against all development if it ensures environmental protection (e.g. trails and bathrooms) or if it involves creating more camping spots.

This is especially true at RR where freaking Vegas is a stone's throw away. If you want more luxurious accommodations, the RR canyon resort is right there.

Also, why are the walk-in campgrounds at the RR campgrounds almost always closed? Is it just a means of getting higher fees by forcing people to use the drive in sites? Honest question.

There will be public meetings on the fee increases this week!

Check out the letter that we got from the BLM the other day:

For all the folks that didn't show up to the meetings, remember that your comments are due by the 16th of Nov. There were three climbers at the first meeting. Hopefully more showed up at the later one. Remember, if ya don't show up or comment, ya got no right to complain. To answer a few popular questions: By law, any $$ collected here, stays here. The fee increase corresponds to the rising cost of upkeep and keeping up with the operational budget. This is a draft business plan. Public comments are highly solicited. It is not set in stone. Make your opinions heard. Join your local climbers liasion council. and show up. lvclc.org. cheers.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
