Alaskan Adventures from the 1960s presented by Dee Molenaar

Dee Molenaar will return to Neptune Mountaineering with a slide show covering two of his Alaskan adventures in the 1960s. These will include the 1960 rescue of John Day, Jim and Lou Whittaker, and Pete Schoening on Mount McKinley, after their rapid ascent and disastrous fall on the descent; and the 1965 Mount Kennedy Yukon Expedition with the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and American Everester Jim Whittaker. Molenaar is a former guide and park ranger at Mount Rainier during 1940-1952, in 1953 Dee was a member of the successfully 1946 Mount St. Elias Alaskan Expedition and the tragedy-marred attempt to climb K2 in the Karakoram Himalaya. Molenaar authored the award-winning book, The Challenge of Rainier, published in 1971 and now in its 9th updated printing. An internationally known alpine artist, Dee will display some of his watercolors and landform maps, available for purchase. Show starts at 8:00 PM. $5 (at the door)
