I heard that there was a heli evac from North Table in Golden about 2pm yesterday when a block fell and hurt a climber.

Hopefully, he/she is doing well today and on the way to recovery.

I was in clear creek and thought I heard a chopper close by.... so it's definately possible, but I haven't heard one way or another.. anybody else know?

Our party was just south of the involved party yesterday. We saw the block roll from the base of the climb down the hill and finally come to a rest. The block was roughly the size of a microwave, and it fell or landed on a gentleman's hand. We ran over to offer (minor) first aid but his hand was already wrapped in a tshirt and it was very apparent that he need serious med help, not my little dinky first aid kit. No chopper landed but I believe EMT's transported him to the hospital. He was able to walk down the trail to the lot. A highly unfortunate accident and I wish him the best of recovery's!

Aye!! I hope the guy is ok. There is a lot of blood on the lower portion of the route (The BM Route, Tradlands). I can only assume that the block that fell on him came from somewhere close to the 2nd/3rd bolt on the left side. My partner knocked down a 5' section of block just left of the 2nd bolt this afternoon. There is a lot of crap on that side of the route that is still dangerous. If you're going to climb it, your safest bet is to climb up the face. Its harder but solid. I pulled a draw off the route tonight. Describe it to me and I'll get it to you.

My son and I were at the scene and helped gather gear. The climbers hand was very badly smashed. The climber and his partner were able to walk to the parking area. When I got most of their gear down to the parking area, they were gone. I talked with a park ranger, then a fire rescue truck came looking to collect their equipment. I gave them their gear, rope bag - (rope should be retired), packs and a black cell phone found along the trail - we think it was the belayer's phone.

The fire rescue crew told us they were at the hospital receiving care. We saw the flight for live helicopter about 30-45 minutes later head up towards the mouth of Clear Creek Canyon. They may have provided secondary transport, but hopefully the initial care had been provided at some facility before that time.

The rock was more the size of a table than a microwave. The smashed hand was a very bad injury, but from the size of the rock, they were fortunate to be able to walk out.

We hope they are both doing well physically and emotionally - it was a serious injury and they handled it very well.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
