Hello Denver Climbers,

We have our meeting set up for August. Denver Climbers Coalition will be BBQ'n at West Lions Park in Golden, CO. The address is 1300 10th Ave. Lions Park West is just 5 blocks west of the American Mountaineering Center in downtown Golden (Washington and 10th). Head west on 10th, Clear Creek runs on your left, you will pass the fire station, museum, library and ball fields. Maple Street is the park's east border, keep going to the middle of the park, then we will be on your right. Parking is along 10th Street.

Some food and beer will be available to get the festivities started, but please bring one or two of your favorite dishes to share. For the adults of legal drinking age, we have received our Open Container Permit. There are a few simple guidelines for this event. We can enjoy beer and wine (permit does not cover hard liquor). All beverages must be consumed in a plastic or metal container, no glass allowed.

Feel free to arrive any time after 5:00pm We will start the meeting section at 6:45-7:00, try to arrive early to allow grilling and eating. I will be there at 4:30 to claim our turf. At 9:00 we have to finish our beer and wine and remove it from the park, we can stay and mingle till the park closes. For permit control, it is helpful if you let me know how many people you are bringing. Email me at

If you are under the age of 21 you are definitely invited, just refrain from the alcohol, it is my tail on the line and our group's reputation.

We are putting together our agenda, here is on our plate so far....

  • Networking and meeting your local climbers, who we are, where we climb, careers, our families...etc.
  • Mission Statement.
  • What areas Denver Climbers Coalition will 'take under its wings' These are YOUR climbing areas!
  • Who manages our climbing areas.
  • How will the LCO be structured.
  • Promoting our organization to climbers, new members, land owners, land managers.
  • Open Forum.
  • Outline our September Meeting.

If you would like to see other items on the agenda let us know....

I just thought about pets at the BBQ, I will double check, but I assume it is OK with the Park. The usual leash for the pet. Too many may be a distraction, use your own judgment and be courteous of others, just as if you were at the base of a crag.

Reminder: Mt Evans clean up on Saturday Aug. 16th.
Stay tuned for more announcements. See you on the 28th, Lyle Guthmiller

Is there any chance this will be rescheduled to another date? This is the same time as the acceptance speech for Obama, and other festivities... It seems like it would be an excellent meeting, but it's at an unfortunate time.

Yeah, that's something that we didn't consider. I'll see what I can do.

I'm going to have to go on call for the sheriff's department so I won't be able to make it as either. Is it possible to reschedule this?
