Canine Cliffs Rock Climbing

From Hwy 191, cross the "Squaw Creek Bridge" (according to Google Maps) over the Gallatin River. Take a right, and park at the Storm Castle Peak Trailhead. Head south across the foot bridge over the creek signed as the Garnet Mountain and Gallatin Riverside Trails. At the major junction about 3 minutes up the trail, stay to the left. The trail will traverse/gently ascend the forested hillside south in a mostly straight line for about 15-20 minutes. You'll get to a still forested crest/ridge line, and the trail will make a noticeable turn to the left. At this point, there is a faint climber's spur trail cutting off to the right, with a cairn about 50' off the trail. Follow the ridge line, and more cairns, to the TOP of the cliffs.

Upper cliffs:
(Dogleg Arete, Coyote Crack, etc.) Follow cairns down and left towards the tops of the cliff. There is a short, safe 3rd class scramble down to the upper area routes. Approach time from main trail: ~3 minutes.

Lower cliffs:
(Beagle Dihedral, Puppy Gully) Leave the cairns behind, and cut left from the ridge line, going out wide beyond the steep, loose hillside. Cut back right wherever you see fit, and if you are lucky you'll find the faint climbers trail traversing along the cliffs. Approach time from main trail: ~7 minutes.
