My dad.
Only person I'd want to be like in and out.
Everyone else just do things I'd like to do.

Wow this thread is still going,

I will say it again then,

Doug Coombs and Chad Vanderham two of the best people, spirits, and skiers that ever lived.

Oh and anyone else who is having more fun than me

My father, who recently died, was a true hero.

WWII veteran, B-17 pilot, shot down and jumped from a burning airplane, broke both ankles, POW in Germany for 18 months. Returned from the war and demanded no fanfare and got none. Spent the rest of his life as a farmer, very proud of the fact that he fed people. Provided an excellent life for his family. One of the "Greatest Generation" although he always denied it. The most humble and capable person I have ever had the joy of knowing.

I would be proud to be half the great man my father was.

Kevin,

Thank you. I appreciate your post.

(My father was also very polite, and I am trying to emulate him).

Wow Lee, I don't think that caliber of person exists these days, sounds like someone to try to emulate. This entitlement generation (my generation) these days has their heads so far up their asses they cant possibly know what humble or capable are.

The need for heroes does not diminish, even as our world becomes more "interconnected" despite lacking the ability to communicate interpersonally. Some would argue the increased need for a hero in the age of the Kard-ass-ians. Since I missed this thread in 07, I'd say: Scarpelli; Gary Johnson, for being the most sane voice the Republican Party's heard in my lifetime; Richard NMN Marcinco, Commander, Ret., since we're on that thread. If you've not heard of him, he's the founder of Naval Special Warfare Development Group aka SEAL6. Leadership Secrets of the Rogue Warrior is a must-read.

The dude who started Girls Gone Wild. OK, he's in jail for taxes, but who would have thought ...

Seriously?Arrogant narcissists are heroes?Oh well...you're young, there's still time to recover.

We can't be other people, we can only be who we are. We's alls that we ams and that's alls that we is.

Now what would you like to be able to DO like someone else has done? Did you like their style? Describe that quality of the person you admire that you wish you could have.

+1

Owen is the man... Always positive despite his condition. I always appreciate being graced by the Kent family's presence.

Also, my friend EVD... For encouraging me to climb because it is fun and encouraging me to do new routes. He always has good advice for a naive youngster such as myself.

Always black and white,eh?I don't like Ayn Rand,so that makes me a communist...obviously.Funny that all of Rands' superior characters are only fiction; easy to gloss over questions of practicality related to things like who runs the steel mill to make "Reardon Metal", or how many people did it take to build Roark's architectural wonder. Did John Galt build his magical powerplant with a handful of very talented capitalists? Seems unlikely to me.In the end,Rands'contempt for people who aren't pathologically selfish renders "Objectivism" a joke that a lot of people don't get.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
