This photo is discombobulating. After having led the climb now, I can see nothing helpful about this photo as far as trying to learn beta about its steepness or anything.

Except that it's an awesome, beautiful, and inspiring photo? This photo made me want to actually climb this route.

Russ, feel free to contribute any and all of your high quality beta photos for the community, especially now that you have led it.

Sorry guys, I didn't realize it would be so personal. Could you be any more sensitive? The photo is turned at an angle, and is therefore not plumb. This makes it an "art piece" more than anything else. I personally found the photograph confusing (before I knew the climb), and now that I know the climb I have even more of a context for it. Posting it on the internet, on a climbing forum is fair game for commentary.

Don't read my comment with snark, read it with a smile. :) This is the problem with impersonal text, it's hard to express tone.

Yeah, depending on the angle anything can look harder than it is. Reminds me of the time I was writing an article for Climbing about the Nose route on Looking Glass and one of the editors flipped the pic to make it look "radder" and steeper. Made the slab look overhanging. The way I look at it is I try to make the picture feel as the climber feels. That climb felt that steep to me. Nevertheless, a good civil conversation about climbing photography is always fun. Now don't get me started on oversaturated pictures of climbs and climbers.
