That is a long runout! Is that necessary? Is gear that hard to place? Cool looking route and cool shot! Just took a good look and see the piece about 10' below the climber. Still a long ways between gear...

No, there is gear the whole way, including right at the crux. The hard part is hanging on long enough to place it, as it's a very pumpy lieback. The crux takes small cams as I remember, like a yellow or green alien. The dude in this photo is obviously very confident as the fall from here is ugly and it would be near impossible to get back on the route without pulling on the rope (you fall around the corner).
