i never placed gear behind that flake... i always protected high in the crack to the left then pulled the traverse...
as for forcing your second to follow it, i cant stand the chimney grovel and much prefer the high traverse... if that is the flake that ripped off i might not be doing this route as much due to the fact that thats my favorite move on the route...
i hope what was left behind is doable, some new hard moves up there might be fun...
