Wilbur was one of the early miners of the Holcomb Valley area during it's initial gold rush (1860's).

As a side to Wilbur’s grave is a "settling pond" which is reported to be used by the miners to “Sluice” and wash the dirt looking for gold. As of this writing (7/29/2011) there was water in the pond however it is overgrown with water plants etc…
