Colorado Summer Skiing
|
So I know everyone is stoked about summer and all that jazz, but I still want to tele some more!! Where can I hike in and still get some good tele turns (decently long, solid glaciers) at this point? I live in Boulder and would be down for some partners. |

I am sure there is probly a ton of options for you in the indian peaks still and access should be easy about now. I hit evans like 2 weeks ago and did the goldfinger couloir with pleanty of snow left (it was fresh with no tracks when we arrived). There was still a fair amount of snow on the way out of the chicago lakes. |

or try and post here. |

You might want to try the purveyor of bc turns, Lou Dawson (www.wildsnow.com). It looks like you might get some turns in still around Independence Pass. Indian Peaks around Jasper usually has an E-facing bowl that takes a while to melt out completely. |

winston brings up a wild idea though. Here me & my bro go up to the evans aprons to do some rock, figure it's about 95-98 degrees in Denver. |

Indian Peaks Apache Peak do Queens way on Isabelle Glacier, great all summer long and actually has a good bit of skiing on it. The top is the steepest maybe around 35 degrees and about 20ft wide. Just watch for chicken heads. |

I am still skiing in the Alma area. There are a good number of places to look for some ribbons of snow. 1. Just below the summit of Bross on the east aspect. I skied it last week and got a depth of close to 8 feet (with my avy probe) in the couloir. 2. There is also some skiing back in the Democrat region as well. 3. Cristo on Quandry looks descent, but definitely know what you are getting into there since it can be a sketch area if you are not familiar. |

I think skiing chutes on high peaks in colorado in the summer is about as fun as it gets. A good starter chute is the grizzly couloir on grizzly peak near independence pass. its about 45-50 at its steepest but not for long, and it is fairly wide and has a good runout if you eat it. boot up it before you ski it to check it out. |

So..with all of this great input, does anyone want to go soon? I only work a few days a week and would LOVE to go and skin/ski some soon. I don't mind camping or getting up super early, plus the dog will love it. If anyone is interested soon drop me an e-mail it should be on my profile. |
