Thanks, Gigette. That linear feature is a stunningly long diabase (dark-colored minerals) dike.

That crack/dike is over 20 feet wide. You have to get close to truly appreciate its size.

the dike is, to be sure, a cool geologic feature, just be careful looking it up on the intertnet, as a search for "the black dike" can probably bring up some questionable materials.
