Oh baby-you can see that face from all over town. Layton Kor-my hero-read Pat Ament's tales of climbing with Kor in the Gunnison's. When I climbed this route(a hundred years ago)I had seen Little Big Man recently and I kept saying on the walk up-"today is a good day to die"-I'm not sure what my partners thought of my impressive commitment. Fun trad route-if you get off route, the climbing is harder and harder to protect. I tried to solo it once, I got all the way to where you turn the corner and climb an overhanging section-I was plagued by thoughts of a hold breaking and had to go all the way back down the way I came-the traverse, the seam, the chimney-the whole thing-I still think about that.

Cool story..Which of the Pat Ament books has the Kor stories?

I meant to take a higher resolution picture so people could really zoom in, but my camera decided to change its settings by itself somehow..lol, will take another one and replace it sometime..

I need some work before I get on lead on something like this, especially since my routefinding abilities suck..Appreciate the more detailed descriptions Manuel posted..

The destruction at the top of Sabino Canyon is really something, worth a hike to check it out..Haven't checked out the Phoneline trail yet, but looking from below it seems entire sections have pretty much disappeared??

It's a short story, something like 'in the black canyon with layton kor', maybe from the anthlogy Games Climbers Play-I read this at least 20 years ago, but as I sit here I can recall him talking about how tall layton was and how he couldn't reach the placements he needed to pull on to follow, also the death deproach in the dark, and Kor's energy.
