A large Coke Icee, and a big cup of ice water on super hot days ;Burger King drive-thru when I don't feel like hanging out afterwards. Don't worry my health freak friends, I don't eat there. :] But my usual....I immediately start off with a tall glass of ice water, diet coke with my meal, and coffee afterwards at B.J.'s.

I really miss a massive plate of nachos and a pitcher of beer from Mountain Sun, but Portland has enough good beer to keep me happy. On Sunday the beverage of choice was a Shakespear Stout icecream float from the Rogue Brewery. That sure hit the spot.

When my friend from Seattle first introduced me to that at the Pike Place Brewery, I thought he was nuts. But, they are quite tasty!! How about pre-climbing libations? I prefer lots of water, a little juice, and some press pot coffee...preferably using home roasted Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. I have a nice stainless steel press pot and hand grinder that I almost always take with me to Colorado, Vegas, J'Tree, the Red, etc...

I'm missing out; describe the ideal stout float -- I must have sample, can't resist, friggin hot working in Dvr (but it beats pouring concrete in Phx), must have sample! Anyone have a pic of the ideal stout float -- maybe that would do the trick?

Definitely use a stout that is really roasty, maybe a touch of sweetness, and full bodied. Guinness is not ideal for it, but Rogue Shakespeare stout is perfect, Avery Out of Bounds Stout would work too (my home brewed Owen Spalding Oatmeal Stout is a good match, too). Then use a high quality vanilla ice cream (I am partial to Breyer's vanilla bean).

Corner Bar in the Hotel Boulderado $2 beer of the day, always a micro-brew, cheap happyhour food, straight from the Q's restaurant kitchen...yummy! Best patio in Boulder , and the beer is cold and frothy!

Home Brewed Owens Spalding Oatmeal Stout? - would that be a 4 star ale to be drunk on your belly and/or with a wide stem? belay optional?? Any thought to an Irene's Amber? or a Snaz Pale? or a Black Ice Port.. oh wait, that's not "in"; or a Lower Saddle Godforsaken Windyass tentchewingbastardMarmotinfestedtookadumponmybag Light?

Actually, some of my other beers have climbing themed names to them: Nez Perce Pale Ale Bella's 12a Amber Ale Teton Trippel Bear Lake Belgian Strong Ale etc... :) The 12a Amber, and Nez Perce are on tap now, along with a "Houblon Clone" which does not have a catchy name (the style is a hybrid between a Belgian Trippel and an American Imperial/Double IPA. At 9.8% abv, it packs quite a punch!) Got to remember the Corner Bar in Boulder, I'll be there in three weeks! Mark, if you're in Denver, try the Wynkoop downtown, their beer is quite good. If you like Belgian Trippels, their 666 Trippel is great, although I suspect they're out of it by now.

We've got Oregonians in on the debate and no one is giving props to Deschutes huh? Rogue is definitely some good stuff though.

The best kind of beer...FREE BEER. If that is not available...Mad River Steelhead Double IPA. My buddy who bottles it says they call it double because it takes two brewers to pack the barley and hops into the vat. 8.6%. Stone IPA ain't too shabby neither!

That rivals my homebrew, Nez Perce Pale Ale which is also 8.6%... Pale malt and crystal malt with 4 kinds of hops (Warrior, Centennial, Amarillo and Simcoe). Still some on tap. I'll be right back.... :) The Stone 10th Anniversary IPA is truly Fu King awesome...give it a try!!
