I'm actually going to the New River Gorge this weekend and meeting with someone who's been mentoring climbers for 20 years so I'm hoping to learn a bunch! Friday sport climbing/top rope building anchors all that fun stuff Saturday he said will be a little more advance stuff like big wall/aid climbing super stoked for it

You'll have to tell me the secret spot where you go big wall/aid climbing at the NRG...

You don't know? That's because you're not into advanced stuff :)

You have never turned a 120ft climb into 8 pitches for fun before??? Add some traversing in and I am sure you could go 30 pitches in some areas of NRG.

This is perfect! Once Jared learns big wall/aid climbing he can show me all the ropes. Maybe even join me on my quest to make the second ascent of the North Fork Mountain Traverse and go down as a legend in climbing history!

Royal Robbins is reading this thread right now, and preemptively rolling in his grave.

I think that guy's still alive, giving motivational speeches and writing self help books.

Personally, Baskin Robbins is my go to for climbing inspiration.

It's my opinion that the postings of a smelly hippy results in most thread being better through making self righteous douches heads explode. She is like the NASCAR of internet posting, eventually, it ends up in a wreck. Bring on the mayhem!!

Predator seems to be an .11-. The crux is on the face wall at the top, not the roof. Sup got the bug and wants to learn fast, but Sup, there are grade variations between places. Don't be overconfident because you did a 45 foot low grade .11 with a gymmy face move. Too easy to get in over your head, too easy to make a mistake setting up a rappel even if you're experienced. There are some 5.8, .9, .10 that can be pretty "thought provoking" elsewhere (Joshua Tree comes to mind).

rob, good job reading the route description and then repeating it here. I would have given it a great job if had the name of the route correct.

I want to hear about the trip to the new. How did it go? I want to head there sometime this summer. How did the grades compare to the gym and/or petrified

Hey Mitch,
Yea, I looked the pic of the route and thought "11?" I just wasn't seeing it so I went to the description and read it, can't claim t have climbed there as I'm in So Cal area and mainly do Joshua Tree in Winter and San Bernardino mountains in summer.

It's cool the OP is stoked, but people are going gym to crag faster now and I'm seeing some pretty risky stuff. Just want OP to realize this is a different ball game.

Oh drop the snark. You only need 30' or even less to practice some of the basic techniques needed on a big wall.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
