Pre-order the new Yosemite Guidebook!

Hi Marc,

Yes, those accusations are false....but believe what you want. Here in Yosemite everyone is super excited for Spring. There are no acrimonious arguments ringing through the Valley, just jubilant monkey calls and psyched reunions after winters dark night. At night we don't lock horns around the fire - we high five and cheers to our good fortune to be in such an amazing place.

Def guilty of too many woots though, lol, super guilty.

Thanks for the preorders guys. Keep it comin!

Woot!
Erik

Holy Shit. the most superfluous and evasive answer yet. You've outdone yourself with this one!

Well, since this thread is already at the top, this is not a bump.

Eric Sloan has demonstrated, over and over again, that he has little concern for historical mores in the climbing community and that he is totally resistant to criticism of his actions.

I won't be buying his guide, and I strongly discourage others from doing so.

Just my 2 pence but can you guys just start another thread where you bash the hell out of Eric. Sure ethics are a touchy subject but last time I checked, that shit is still climbable, he didn't fuck run your kid over with a car or send money to Isis. And Eric, way to handle said ethics bullshit with some class. I have more respect for the way you are handling being repeatedly bashed than I do for all the hard ass work you put into your guidebook( and I have some serious respect for your new guidebook). Well it's probably time for someone to quote and bash my post so have at fellers. Who has two thumbs and gives no fucks............

Ethics debates aside, can we all agree that "Woot!Woot!" is annoying as f***?

Are we reading the same posts? It's funny how I can have the exact opposite opinion. When confronted, Eric makes some vague statements about the nature of ethics, questions and puts down the dissenter because they have not climbed as many big walls as he has, and says how awesome the party is in Yosemite woot woot.

I respect his work replacing bolts/anchors and am thankful for that. But lashing out or condescendingly questioning/dismissing Roger Brown, Clint, Ed and others shows that he has an agenda and is not being honest about it. In my opinion his posts and behavior on these forums are really bizarre. Just look a little deeper Turd...unless you just like to stir the pot...

Yo Gang,

Thanks for all your posts, and for your preorders. We've received about 200 orders so far, and are needing to presell close to 1,000 books to cover the upfront cost of printing this book, so please help us spread the word!

The ethics debates will always be there in climbing, for sure, and in some ways that has be a powerful force for dividing our community. To me, this project is so cool because of all the people who came together, not because they agree with everything I do in Yosemite, but because they genuinely cared that the Yosemite guidebook authors did not seem to be doing their jobs - and they wanted to volunteer their time to make a better guidebook, for this and future generations. That's what has happened here, and it's super, super cool.

When you go to next poker game, or soccer game, or choir practice, really look around and think about how each person probably has some radically different views than you on local community issues. These threads paint a picture of a Yosemite that is raucous with debate and acronymity, but that is not what it is like here, at all. Climbers come to this amazing park to celebrate the mountains here. They feel comradery with their fellow climbers. Sure, sometimes we talk about things that we do not all agree about, but we honor and respect each others opinions, and do our best to 'walk a mile in the other's shoes'.

I like 'Go For It' much better than 'Woot!!'...

"Go for it" is better, even moreso when Rocky Balboa says it:

These haters hang around like a bad smell whenever Erik's names get mentioned. They are as predictable and pleasant as mosquitoes on a camping trip. Aren't we meant to confine the vitriol to the Erik Sloan Ethics Megathread? Mods, can we move these comments to the appropriate venue?

I'd like to see a few sample pages upfront.

Good suggestion Van Doan. You can see the awesome, three-page fold out map (usgs style topo map on one side, and Tick List on the other) at RockClimbYosemite.com ........but with this rainy weather here are some pages from the 12 page Parkline Slab section (ran into some climbers last night who had just done Flying in the Mountains and said it was one of the best multi-pitch climbs here they'd done:

Parkline Slab - Rock Climbing Yosemite Valley: 750 Best Free Routes

Parkline Slab Topos, from Rock Climbing Yosemite Valley: 750 Best Free Routes

It looks like you guys did a great job and utilized new tech to make info clearer and more accessible. I'm sold.

I preordered a copy earlier today! Can't wait! When are these expected to ship out? My address might be changing at the end of June (heading down to the east side and yosemite for a month!) so I wouldn't want to miss the new book!

Erik Sloan · · Yosemite, CA · Joined Dec 2013 · Points: 254

Thank you guys!

Books will ship the first week of June, via Media Mail(unless you choose the $8 priority mail option), so should be delivered by the 16 - 20th....

It is impossible to say what day the books will ship for sure, because there is a delay when the boat arrives at Oakland and when the books have cleared customs, which depends on several factors like how busy the port is those days, where in the boat the container with the books was located, etc.

Xocomil - I will update this thread when the books arrive. So you will have the chance then to email me and ask for local pickup instead of having it shipped, if that would work better.

How about the whole thread gets put into the For Sale section? This is Climbing Gear Discussion.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
