surfing and wave sailing

We've got a sweet little south swell getting in to my favorite summer spot.
Waves have been mostly shoulder to head high with the occasional bigger in certain sets. The wind has been virtually nonexistent on the south side making for some awesome seshes yesterday and today maybe tomorrow as well.

Regarding the story on KHON, I was in Kona the evening before the tsunami hit- that area got damaged quite a bit more than other parts of the state. I wouldn't be surprised if there was still some residual stirred-up sediment and/or re-arrangement on that coast... I have no idea if it'd be anything that would affect shark behavior.

That's a really good point Peter. We have some areas on our south side that are still noticeably brown and murky after all this time.

Anyone know of a good surfing-climbing film. I didn't find 180 degrees south interesting.

I know what you mean Jason. If they had just made the movie about YC's adventure back in the day it might have been better IMO. I would be interested to find one my self. I have some friends that are putting out some really good water stuff. Perhaps I will see if they have any interest in a climbing/surf project.

The past two days have been great south side surfing with light to no wind and just board shorts. Waves have been in the head and a half size and plentiful. The forecast is for more of the same so I think I'll make the drive again today.

South shores - Surf from the large south swell will continue breaking Tuesday…maintaining small or a bit larger waves through the week.

Sweet! I went out in boardshorts the other day to, although I'm sure you were warmer.

I'm such a woos! After only three days of paddling I am getting tired.
Looks like the south side is holding so after I teach a beginner windsurf lesson this morning I think I'll go check it out.

Hey, I just started kiteboarding last week. Found the neutral and power zones, and got moving a little bit on my board today on my 7m. Keep it real guys. Olaf those pics are sick! I gotta make it out that way.

Jasonn, Climbing in the wind sucks! Surfing in the wind almost always sucks!The truth is that it's a windy world. So If you include a wind sport kiting or wind surfing in your bag of tricks you can almost always have a great time.
Boy it sure is windy here on Maui at the moment.

It's one of those days. I need to paddle out. The beaches charge cars for parking until four pm. It's a drag. I'm going to have to wait... or just find a way in. I clean and surf our beaches year round, and than once it's summer they want my money. I'm going to surf today, and it's going to do good things for me.

Jasonn, I hope you got a sesh. It's a drag that the best beaches in many places charge a fee to use them. A few great waves can be worth it though. My deal at this time is the price of gas to get to the south side of the island. At $4.60 per gal it costs me around $15.00 round trip since I live on the north shore just to go check. We are blessed with a real time video cam that can give a pretty good idea though. I've got to get the carpool thing going. The problem with that is not every one is on the same schedule or wants to surf the same brake.

Not much for waves here today. I'm waiting for the next south swell episode. It is really windy so I think I'm gonna sail off shore a ways and look for some of those big green smooth wind swells that have been traveling uninhibited thousands of miles with the trade winds.
