Sep 24, 2022 · Lead / Redpoint. Not since I worked my first ever 12a, seven years ago, has it taken me this much time and toil to send a 12a. The myriad ways in which I am able to fail and flail on this route somehow became more varied and hilarious the longer I worked it. I warned belayers that I was at risk of falling off at least 30% of the holds on this climb. Even on the lap before my send go I managed to fall off at a totally new place. But it finally went. If you struggle with body tension, awkward moves, and bulges, then the ground to the third bolt will give you plenty of opportunities to address those weaknesses. That’s why I projected this damned thing, and why it took me two years of effort to get it done. (And why I sent a hard 12c, twice, in less than 1/2 the tries this took me). I found a pleasingly technical and fussy way to do the upper crux (out right), and after that it’s 10+ super hero climbing on side pulls with solid stem stances to the anchors, so it thankfully had some redeeming features to boost my ego after I fell and took 27x from the ground to the third bolt.
