East Face
Nov 15, 2023 · 4 pitches. Lead. Amazing day! party of 6 ~11 hrs rountrip from candlestick rack doubles to 4, single 5, 60 m ropes Approach Beta From White Rim head west out of camp for about 2/3 of a Mile, taking the first major wash up to the right towards the tower. follow this wash until it's terminus at the base of the cone. there are a couple drops in the wash that are easily bypassed on climbers right. at the base of the choss cone, head left along a faint trail, trying to avoid crypto, and going over the head of several smaller washes. eventually you'll cross a larger wash towards the northwest side of the cone, and start heading up the obvious ramp that breaks the cliff bands all the way to the saddle north of candlestick. reach the saddle and continue low around the formation, past the route on the east side 50 yds, before tackling the final scree field up to the base. climb the choosy cracks just directly below the v notch, belaying on a large pedestal ledge at the base of the splitter hand crack, 120 is ft. 5.10 hand crack leads to a big chimney, save a 3! money pitch for sure. the belay at the top takes 4s and 5s, though you'll want 2 4s ideally for p3. climb the wide crack in the lfc, which quickly turns to 4s, stepping left and tackling the offwidth at the top, protected by 2s. watch the teetor tottering block above this, and scramble unprotected slabs to the anchor. Traverse right along the cliff band, and climb the awkward 5.9 pitch to the next anchor. ditch ropes and scramble to the top
