Retired from WDNR in 2001! Learned to climb in the Tetons in 1985. I live in Portage, WI, which is 18 miles from the friction-less quartzite at Devil's Lake. I primarily enjoy mountaineering and have ascended peaks in the western U.S., Mexico, Canada, Europe, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Alaska. Pardon the pun, but "The Needles Rock". The Needles and Spires in the Hills are only 760 miles away from where I live -- good for a 4-day road trip. Retired from climbing in 2015 due to back injury.
