Suggested Page Improvements to The Pins

Suggest the Pins area be subdivided into 2 sub-areas: Northern Pins and Southern Pins. See the map I posted for the geographic logic behind this. Right now the Northern's contain 68 routes and Southern's 26. I can add the two subareas but need Admin help to move Terrapin to Northern and Patina and Minnie to Southern. I will also add other Pins over time. As brief background, Doug Colwell and I started developing the Needles in the late 90's. Then I left the country for 20 years during which he spearheaded Pin development. Lately, with Doug's blessing, I've been upgrading anchors and some bolting and have "re-documented" all the climbs.

Getting There Suggestion

3 miles south of Donnelly, Idaho, turn east on Davis Creek Rd. Here's the milage chart from the turnoff

Mile

Driving directions from Hwy 55

0

Set trip odometer at junction of Hwy 55 and Davis Creek Lane, ca. 3 miles S of Donnelly. Sign for Gold Fork Hot Springs on Hwy 55. Paved Road.

2.4

Paved road ends at “T” after bridge. Turn right and follow main road, now gravel. Pass Gold Fork Hot Springs at mile 6.5. Road eventually becomes FS Road 498 after HS.

12

Major intersection with FS Road 402. Big sign for roads into upper drainage. Turn right onto 402, which is a good gravel road.

14

Junction with Road 402C on your left. This is the second left after the 498-402 junction. There is a sign with 402C, but it is faint and may be kinda hidden. Turn left onto 402C. A small water bar at first, but otherwise a good road (Prius-able) to obvious large camp near end. A bit overgrown, so watch for branches over road if you have a tall vehicle.

16.5

Camp at end of road.
