Suggested Page Improvements to Kinnaird Bluffs
This area was purchased by the non-profit group TAWKROC (The Association of West Kootenay Rock Climbers) in 2016. The 18-acre property boasts 100-metre-high cliffs but is surrounded on 3 sides by suburbia. Therefore it's imperative climbers be respectful of our neighbours so the city doesn't revoke access:
• Park (as described in the West Kootenay Rock Climbing Guide book)
• Keep noise to a minimum. Climbing calls only.
• No swearing. The base of Kinnaird acts as an amphitheatre and the neighbours hear everything climbers say.
• No music.
• Stay to established trails.
• Stay off of private property and out of people’s back yards.
• Do not cross the empty lot below Hail Mary Wall. There's a new trail from Yellow Sling Wall.
This is an older climbing area with more traditional protection. Many of the bolts are very rusty thanks to old age and a wet climate. The rock is very good gneiss. There are over fifty routes, a handful are up to three pitches long.
