Oct 29, 2023 · 8 pitches. Follow. With TC. From Heart to El Cal Spire. He led all pitches and taught me the beta. There were a few crux/learnings on this portion. 1. The 5.11c move on the first pitch off Heart. Well protected by the bolt. Smear your left foot, put your right foot on the questionable dot, put both hands on the painful crimp, and stand up for the side pull with the right hand. Done. I had a couple tries until I knew how to do it. 2. The downclimb before Hollow Flake. About 40 meters. Felt like 10a downclimb at the beginning because the layback hand was deep. And it got harder near the end of the crack. Topo says 11d but I didn’t feel that hard. I had a foot slip there. But it should not be that hard if I just be more careful next time. Traverse was easy. Use a #7 if the top part of the Hollow Flake seems scary. I might be able to do it without #7 if I become better at offwidth. 3. Inside of the Ear. Use knee bar to move. And it will be easy. 4. The traverse before Monster is 11c but I don’t feel it’s that hard either. Foot looks bad but quite decent. Hands are good. Layback and traverse until the left hand can reach Monster. Then layback a few steps until the body can get into Monster for squeezing. 5. Just need to keep working on offwidth squeezing. Monster can be protected by a #6 very well. It wouldn’t be possible to learn so much so quickly without Tommy’s guidance.
