Comments: The rappel boulder from the top of pitch two fell off. There is no established anchor to rappel from the top down the route. Rappel anchor for pitch one is far up and descender's right.

N Face rap is almost dead vertical and about 170 or 180'. Anchor was big slung boulder with an unweighted nut backup located about 10' below summit cairn.

Lots of webbing would be beneficial for supplementing/replacing tat. Loose! Hide 20'@SEM... more >>

Comments: Good input RM, gracias. So that highpoint needs to be added, I reckon. Since Block Tops seems a real sticky wicket, a fine finish is Gilpin and Sneffels. That ridge is really quality on Sneffels. A crux on Gilpins S ridge, 100ft of steep loose climbing on the left (west) side after rounding a buttress.

Comments: Block Tops continues to be a problem to be solved.
Easier access to the saddle between Gilpin and Block Tops can be had via the Sneffels parking lot in Yankee Boy Basin to attempt the scary meat of the traverse.

Comments: Well done, Senor Sauce,
That sounds like a pretty long day in the snow. Eight mountains down, only those eight again plus Gilpin, Block Tops, Dallas, West Dallas, T. Zero, S3, S5, S6, Mears, S7, S8, S9, and S10 to go. Plenty of time up high to think of a more appropriate moniker. How was the first third? Any trouble getting around the Saint Sophia-like spires? How did you handle those stretches? Which route did you take off of Emma? Any trouble there? Avalanche danger? Thanks for sharing y... more >>

Comments: The stretch in the sun looks to be one of the major cruxes of the traverse.

Comments: Block Tops, for sure, though "commonly" I doubt. Thanks -- poor memory. The name is rather fitting when viewed from Sneffels or Dallas Divide. I am working on getting photos up which illustrate the challenge.

Section B has been attempted following Section A from Imogene Pass, failure prior to Gilpin. Section B has not yet been attempted on its own.

Value of a winter traverse? Winter may hold an advantage if you could rely on snowclimbing over the scree/choss and ice holding the rock together... more >>

Comments: Thanks, its Italian. Too bad you can't see the grip, you'd love that BS. A brave and fierce unicorn was delicately carved into the rich checkered walnut handles.

One big gun has gotten me into enough trouble

Comments: It's a silly goal, but l think Crack of Delight and the Crack of Fear at Lumpy in a day would be fun.

Comments: $50 bounty paid to the first traverser of Section B, from Emma taking the ridge line over Gilpin, Block Top, Dallas, West Dallas and TO.

$100 for the complete traverse from Imogene Pass to Hayden Peak in a push.

A challenge for some beer money, an incentive for interest.

Comments: Forgive the knee and the lack of summit. The point of the pic is to show the giant cliff in the ridge (directly above the knee) between the East ridge of Mount Wilson and the West ridge of Gladstone. The East face of Mount Wilson also shown.

Comments: From ledges above the East ridge, Jon traversed to and led the stepped corner below him directly on the left skyline. A bold lead with little pro on 5mil static cord. The ledge above him is ~100ft directly above the top of the couloir.

Comments: BASE jumpers walk up the back side in 30 minutes from the parking lot. Hiking down the back and around is way faster and safer than rapping. The final rappel can stick your rope pretty good, too. Beware

Comments: Crux pitch is looong and uniformly small gear, soaked up #5 HB offset brassies. Very scarred. No C2 about it, pretty stiff, thought we. Big fall potential, but steep and clean. Depends on the size of your rack, l reckon. No fixed KBs as mentioned
