Comments: Really enjoyed this climb. Just did it for the first time today and I can't believe I have been to Cathedral as many times as I have without doing this. I felt like it was easier than Pine Tree which I have climbed several times.

Comments: Couldn't find this today. A friend and I ended up walking around to the top of the old chair lift through the woods following what looked like an old road, but it definitely wasn't "overgrown." Devils chair was cool.

Would like to find this one as well. Can you see it from the road?

Thanks for posting these! They are a welcome attraction compared with Snow Hill.

Comments: Though I haven't been to the top of too many of the climbs... I would say this route has the best view reward for the least amount of work... View is really great considering this route is approximately thirty feet.

Comments: In the red last October. (2013) This thing had spider webs in it that looked like they could stop humans from hitting the ground. Scariest things ever? The only thing harder than .13b trad is dealing with what are (most likely..) man eating spiders in the dihedral. And, -er-, well probably .13c trad routes too...

Looks stellar, hope I can climb this hard someday.

Comments: Wow. Just wow. This route is a must do. We rapped after hanging out above the fourth pitch, but I almost immediately regretted skipping out on the fifth pitch. This is probably the most memorable route I did in my week long Red Rock trip. The stemming, and layback smearing is fantastic and the rock has such great friction.

When I got down from Prince of Darkness, which I enjoyed climbing, I was pretty happy to be heading back to the car. This thing though, I wish could have gone on for anothe... more >>

Comments: At 5'7" with a very positive ape index, I found Prince to be a rather reachy route including clipping in a few places where I simply could not reach. The first bolt at the start of pitch six was no exception. I had to fashion a foot step out of a sling to reach the first bolt to avoid falling onto my belayer.

With some moves happening while the previous bolt was a few feet below my feet, I found myself thinking a bit too much about how badly I didn't want to fall onto the less than vertical f... more >>

Comments: Some helpful, wish I had known information on the whitney-gilman approach.

If you find yourself heading up the walk-off it will be tempting to step out onto the talus field and want to traverse towards where you climb. This is a bad idea. Turn around, go back to the bike path, go north, (left)to the actual trail (marked by a cairn as of 6/11/14) and just go up that way.

Trust me. This one questionable decision made our day significantly longer and more treacherous than it needed to be. Still ... more >>

Comments: If this is the building I think it is. I've always wanted to top out on the "real rock" formation on the sides of the black. I believe it's very tall though, and can't remember what the edge of the roof looks like. Good work!

Glad someone did it!

Location: Maine : Shagg Crag : Ginseng Route (5.12b/c)

Comments: Ginseng is the first 5.12 I sent. The moves are fun, and it seems like nearly every piece of the route has different beta that can work for anyone.

This route is just too fun. If you are a wannabe 5.12 climber and you don't get on Ginseng when you visit Shagg, you've missed out.

P.S. The move typically considered the crux has wrecked more than two shoulders. I found that my shoulder was really upset if my feet were too low.

Comments: As of 5/1/2013 the sport climb all the way to the right on the main wall has only one hanger without a rappel ring over the edge and no anchor above it which makes for very difficult cleaning of draws on the route. For clarity, this is NOT the sport climb way around the right end's corner.

For maybe twenty feet of climbing though; with large moves, positive holds, exciting heel hooks and a mantel top out, the route was definitely worth it. Felt easier than the grade in the "North Co... more >>
