Comments: This route sees no traffic, because it makes no sense.
5.7 trad to a 2 bolt V3 boulder problem.
IMO, the bolts should be pulled and installed at top of crack to make a quality line. No wonder whoever bolted it has yet to come forward and claim it.

Comments: As of 2016, the tree blocking the upper wall has fallen down and is now laying at the base.

Please do not bolt this wall. I will install some bomber TR anchors. For many years, I have wished that the tree was not there, and I would like the opportunity to boulder these to the top and set a TR for some harder stuff at Otter Beach.

Win-win for all and no unnecessary bolts.

Long time local with a lot invested in this canyon. Thanks.

Comments: With the weather so warm, it should be good to go. Probably muddy on the way in, and some climbs may be wet.

Comments: Unfortunately that corner is a funnel for the slope above it and gets dirty every year. Fun little route though.

Comments: I felt the same way on this route during the FA which finished up onto the ledge at the top. This was pre-chains. Sure as hell felt 11+ that day.

Comments: I did my second ascent of this route yesterday. Twenty seven years after my first. Just as much fun. And I used cams instead of hexes and stoppers.
The four of us had the place to ourselves. First trip to Red Rocks for the couple who joined us Great line, sweet times.

I will be focusing my energy on a new area instead.

Comments: Hangers will be in place until this fall.
Unless you are properly equipped to paint hangers on the wall without making a mess of it, I would prefer you paint none of them. If you must, tan and flat black will be your color choices.

Kevin, yes there have been complaints from land managers and hikers. Every unpainted hanger is targeted. I am not really concerned with causing a rift in our local climbing community. Those that equipped these routes knew what was expected of them and dropped the b... more >>

Comments: They are still up. Not fair of me to take all away for the summer visitors.
This fall they will come down. If those that put them up unpainted in the first place would have been proactive, there would be no reason to be reactive.

Comments: Every unpainted hanger in the canyon is coming down. Paint 'em or lose 'em, your choice. Contact me if yours end up missing. Show up with some primer and paint, and you can have them back. I'll even watch you paint 'em.

Comments: You're right. Somewhere on every Piedra route is a reachy section.
The anchor bolts on the face are to be removed this summer.
My wife is 5'2" and has different beta through the crux. I can't do it like she does.

Comments: The pin was there a few years before you redpointed the route.
My FA of this route to the top (before chains) was in 2000. The pin was there and was placed by Alex Barrows or Mike Clinton depending on who you ask.
