It's like losing a member of the family. (Dome Rock, California) Bryson and Wesley enjoy one of the great rest day activities in the Upper Kern River Canyon around the Needles. Nobe Young Creek is home to some of the finest natural water slides and plunge pools. (Sumer 2017) The reason for calling this technique "the Gondola" is that their reward for demonstrating perfect lowering technique on the top half of the route was to sit back and "ride" down the second half.

When they were little, they enjoyed this even more than the actual climbing! The most effective way to teach the boys to lower properly was to use a technique that the boys came to affectionately call "the Gondola." To do this, I first counter ascend up, clip myself to the tie-in knot using a PAS, and then lower together. Dome Rock (July 2017)
