Comments: Ian and I checked this out a bit and avoiding the inclination to climb into Starfish / Lake Boulder Lunge seemed forced.

Comments: Starting on an obvious jug on the lower right corner and trending up and left through the face seems to be the obvious line. Definitely toes the line between possible and impossible. Would be very cool to see some strong dude try it.

Comments: A testpiece in tension & control. Also, the zebra striped slopers at the lip are incredible. A low may be possible and hard (v12?) but the landing would require a ton of work.

Comments: Classic Lake. Hard, technical start leads to some amazing holds and moves above. Nice addition to the East Bluff circuit.

Comments: Straight up will take you past the Bully boulder all the way to the Green Fire boulder. This seems to be the center of the field, with White Knight 200 feet to the West (this is the Western most climb in this field).

Comments: What are the best undone problems at the lake? I'm getting sick of hiking around looking for them.

Comments: Ian may be exaggerating the safety thing here. If you're comfortable in the v7 range you can probably do this with 4 pads (2 big, 2 simple with a spotter). If not, you may want 6 but it'd be worth hiking them up there.

That being said, you really don't want to dry fire off the second to last move because you'd probably miss the landing and take a 25 foot fall into the talus.

Comments: Remo is sandbagging the safety thing here. It really comes down to how many pads you have / if you're lucky enough to hit them. If you have insufficient pads or you miss, Eggert is right, you could be seriously, seriously messed up.

I would not take this one lightly.

That being said, for those who can comfortably climb this thing: the boulder is big, the holds unique, the movement interesting, and the position incredible.

It deserves to be climbed.

Comments: I climbed this from a sit with my hands where Vinny's are (mountainproject.com/v/10680048... yesterday. For me, this added a tough hand move and two foot moves into Ian's start, essentially making the problem 50% longer (and 50% better?). I call this start "The Irregular Route."

Starting lower and to the left may be possible, though the substantially increased dab factor decreaed quality in my mind. I'd like to hear what others think the ideal start position would be.

I also fixed the... more >>

Comments: also this gets one star because there is a cool move. It gets no more than that because you can jump to the top from a pad, it's likely that you'll dab, sometimes it's wet, and, most importantly, i can't do it.

Comments: This is a different problem. So is Velvet Hammer. Hammer Club is not. The difference between these and that is that they end in different places (even though you still stand on top of the same boulder. Different boulder problems need to have either a unique start or or a unique finish, but not both.

Joe's Valley example for Nic:

Wills of Fire / They Call Him Jordan: same boulder problem, They Call Him Michael is just climbing a v6 with v8 beta.

Wills of Fire / We Call Him Michael, diffe... more >>
