Comments: I did this one a year or two ago. I called it "Bat Arete" b/c we saw a bat hanging from it. Pretty fun v1 or 2.

Actually, did a nice problem Ian did a few years ago called "Hidden Treasure" in this area. So this one is going to be known as "X Marks the Spot" if no one objects.

Comments: I started matched in the lower jug in the crack sitting on the rock. Felt like the full line to me. Thunder From Down Under Sit v7 or something.

Comments: Yeah, I think I went to the top. Cool to see a problem on the face. Saw your chalk on this today (which is not one of the ones up there I climbed) but didn't have a chance to try it out.

Comments: Cool that you guys climbed up there. I did that big arete a while back, as well as a campus problem left of it. I also did a handful of things around where I think this problem is. Y'all have a photo?

Comments: I'm not the admin on this problem but after seeing the comments above again the description is misleading. Starts left hand on the sloper shelf in the center of the wall and right on a wide pinch near the right arete in the back of the cave.

Comments: Hey Joel -

Here are some tips I've found useful when bouldering alone -

1. Avoid problems with very uneven landings. These often require multiple pads - one on the rock and one below, for example.
2. Avoid problems that traverse - I'd rather fall from a little higher onto a pad than sprain my ankle on a tree root.
3. Consider investing in an organic slider pad (organicclimbing.com/collection... - they are incredibly useful for covering pesky rocks and f... more >>

Comments: A little background on these problems -

I was climbing at Burma with Blake, Sam, etc and thought this face looked amazing, despite being rather mossy. I cleaned up what seemed to me to be the easiest way up, which would be climbed later that day by Ian as "Waffle House."

Later, he climbed "Purple Gold," which not only is a better line but also no harder (possibly even easier) than "Waffle House" - turns out I was wrong about the easiest way up!

I don't think anyone knows what line was origi... more >>

Comments: Hey Steve - thanks. Hopefully this helps / you find it interesting. Just right of the ledge you stand on at the rest I placed a #3 HB Offset. From the rest I could reach high and place a #2 DMM peanut in the pod Dave refers to above. This is also used to "protect" (I use that loosely) "Beginner's Demise." Two moves higher, a #5 HB Offset fits nicely in the mini roof. Once you surmount the roof, there are considerably more options. I dropped in a nut and just did the last couple moves up the... more >>

Comments: A tree had fallen across the landing until last spring when I moved it. Glad to see this getting a bit of traffic; thought it was super fun but a bit easier than the other old school v3 / 4 problems around these parts.

Comments: Or draw a topo if any of the MN crew wants to reveal their true stance on linkups.... Shit this is in Wisconsin.

But the Cave Boulder! Shit, also in Wisconsin.

God damnit.

Comments: Hey nezbit

You're right - it was fun. I try to keep fun out of quality though just bc it varies so much from person to person. For example, a kneebar automatically makes something fun for me but not for lots of people I know. Not everyone agrees with this approach (see Jason's comment) but it's what I try to apply.

As for the grade, I didn't say you were two off; just said for me (maybe I'm just the perfect size or set of strengths and weaknesses - who knows?), it wasn't as hard as others. I... more >>

Comments: Well, I don't know about everyone else but I sure had fun watching the now-deleted "discussion" from the sidelines (I was holding my breath waiting for Sam Powers to make an appearance, but alas).

I always planned on chiming in once I had the chance to check this out, but looks like now I'll just be joining a conversation between Tyler and himself, which is typical.

Anyway, I checked this out last night in okay but far from sticky conditions. Here's a video:
