Comments: Where your HELMET and watch out for seriously rockfall from people carelessly rapping the route. The top pitch and the base are both shooting alleys for a lot of loose rock and this is easily observed by the multiple smashed bolts on this wall. Only a matter of time before one gumby kills another gumby on this route.
Otherwise a decent route in an incredible setting.

Comments: I'm almost certain that Ivan (Gary) Pyatt told me a while back that Space Cat was his line up in Blodgett. Sounds like a wild route!

Comments: Dave,

There are some issues with one individual in particular. Check out the Mill Creek Report blog to stay up to date with the issue.

The Western Montana Climber's Coalition is working with the Forest Service on this issue.

Comments: If Alf's allegations are true then I am on his side. The guidebook author was completely in the wrong.

Comments: Alf claimed that he chopped routes that he put up after a guidebook came out giving new names to his routes that were slanderous and disrespectful.

Say what you will about Alf but the author of the said guidebook was completely in the wrong.

Hopefully these routes will be retrobolted in the future.

Comments: Nick Stayner - If this route was not safe on gear then yes i would be guilty of 'spraying'.

Fact is this is Montana and if reasonable gear is present then there shouldn't be a bolt. This has been a major facet of Montana climbing ethics since the beginning of climbing in our great state. Certainly these ethics are being more and more ignored as our sport grows in popularity. By no means am I against clipping bolts, just not pointless bolts.

When I first saw this line I didn't understand why ... more >>

Comments: Horse Head Arch in Blodgett. It's definitely been climbed a number of times but the approach is fairly heinous. One could possible approach via the ridge from the Blodgett lookout.

Indeed Blodgett is an incredible place!

Comments: certainly an interesting ethical debate. Using natural gear on a sport climb. Yet I agree that there is one placement within the 'somewhat delicate' flake. My apologize for fixing an eyesore but I am by no means the first person to do these lines on gear.

Comments: Linking pitches 1 & 2 is logical and makes for a stellar pitch! Much different than your typical Bitterroot line. The whole thing is stellar especially the fingers on the crux pitch.

Comments: By no means an unreasonable trad line. Gear is good but spaced in a few areas. Fixed a nut at the 3rd bolt.

If on gear a rack to 3" is sufficient
