Comments: Wow, that's an amazing story. Thanks Colin. An actual 'bobcat in a bar' incident! But sad to hear about the man's ear and the end of the bobcat. The poor fellow just wanted to enjoy his martini in peace, without all the paparazzi.

Comments: Interesting how that mountain in the foreground catches a narrow shaft of red light. At first I thought it was some sort of double exposure. Nice pic.

Comments: What a coincidence. I'm hoping to someday establish a fun 5.4 at Index. So far, the place has nothing under 5.6. The problem at Index is that any rock that would be suitable is heavily vegetated.

But there will never be the perfect 5.4. You'll find a good one, and even a really great one, but never be completely satisfied. Then some guy will come along and downgrade it to 5.3+.

Comments: This looks like a blast for a 5.2.

I wonder about the meaning of the route name "friuty". Is it intended that way? The spelling differs from that on this photo.

Comments: Some Index routes, like this one, are pretty easy on the toes (not the neighboring routes though). Note though that I did not make it to the top on this attempt.

Comments: Beautiful, powerful-looking route.

I wonder about the bobcat name here. Was there any inspiration from the plethora of bobcat names at Index Washington? I realize that Index is little known, but they have a definite thing for bobcat names there.

Comments: Thanks James, that is all helpful advice, and a little reassuring.

They really blend in well with the surroundings. It took me awhile to notice that one in the picture with the drill.

Comments: Wow, nice shot! But a bit scary.

Can you recommend any Internet source with info about avoiding and treating snake bites?

I suppose the first advice would be to watch where you step, but perhaps there are some other useful suggestions out there?

Comments: It's great that you posted this info Shaun, but it needs to have some more info.

The link is fantastic, but may not always be there. And it shouldn't be required to go elsewhere for info. Could add some info on how to get to the base and what to bring?

Thanks -

Comments: Just off the ground, there is a thin crack in a corner, maybe 15' long. If this is what you are referring to, then I don't think it has a name. It is about 10d though.

Comments: Nice shot.

I wonder though, would it seem even better if rotated around? This picture orientation tends to disorient me unless it is clear that the route is very overhanging. Do others have this issue?

Comments: Nice shot.

Brings back memories of my proudest lead. I had no pro for that off-width pitch, and the belay anchor below was two rusted, partly bent 1/4" bolts. (Had the anchor been better, we would have rapped off.)

Comments: I see, thanks. That's how it looked on the Layaway page.
Well, you could list it as two separate routes, with two names.

I've been tempted to put up some contrived routes that are excellent cracks, but close to another, easier crack to cheat on. And I'd like to encourage the trend...(For trad or TRs, so one doesn't clutter the wall with closely spaced bolts.)

Also, on this topo image above, the white dots do not ... more >>
