Comments: Serendipity is such a fun line. It's nice to have variations like this one.

But how many bolts?

Comments: Sounds intriguing and fun.

But I'm wondering if you could double-check or clarify two things:

1) The location and direction.

This is given as being the furthest right of all the routes on the wall. Yet it 'trends right' and nevertheless reaches the same anchor as routes to its left?

If instead it is the routes to the left that need more description (e.g., "traverse 50' right at the top"@SEM... more >>

Comments: As this title has three names for two routes (even though one is a variation of the other, and both are variations of a third), you might add a second listing for the variation and reduce the bulkiness of the title.

There is plenty of space here on Mt. Project for giving each variation its own listing. It's fine if much of the text is copied (i.e., self-plagiarized).

Comments: I have some good scraping tools and would be game. My preference is for cleaning new lines, but could rescrub some old as well.

Perhaps we can meet there sometime so I could learn where the routes are.

Comments: Yes, it would be nice to know more.

But I guess one has to hike the trail and search for oneself.

Comments: Deceptive perspective -- it took awhile for me to decide that this was looking downslope. The blueness of the sky right at the snow boundary suggests an upward shot.

Comments: Thanks. But I was also thinking about the rating for the free moves in the moss above. What are they rated (in their current state, not in a future cleaned state)?

About the first move, could a person of average height place a rock underneath to step on to reach the first bolt?

Comments: Whether the route is considered an alternative start to one climb or the other, it hardly matters. This is a nice route to have listed.

Comments: Sorry to hear about your ankle, Nat.

As Hummer- says, it is definitely harder than its rating suggests. And the start has a bad landing.

But what types of features does it have, or how does one distinguish it from nearby routes?

Comments: Great to hear.

My newly repaired knee ought to be good to go in time for the peak cleaning season (this coming winter), and with Derek back, we'll aim to hit this route right away.

Comments: Good point, Douglas.

An intermediate anchor also makes sense for the case like Sagittarius where it provides an easier route.
I remember that anchor, and also the way people got to the anchor was different back then -- we would do a hairy undercling out left on that thin flake, known as the 'ringing flake', and then grab the top edge of the flake.

Comments: So, as I remember it, the low anchor on Model W- is a holdover from the FA.

When we first did Model W-, there was a tree in the corner, which was part of the Frog Pond route. So, we just aimed for the tree, wrapped our slings over the tree and rapped off, calling the route finished. Later, the route was extended and the tree removed. I suppose someone tried to remain true to the original route when they placed the bolts there.

Sometimes I think that later parties try too hard to remain true ... more >>

Comments: Thanks Joshua.
You can suggest a rating. MP will give a weighted average to all ratings with the original rating having a larger weight. But with enough suggested ratings, the original will be overridden.
