Comments: Honestly, I don't remember what climb it is, but I doubt it is a 12a. I have never lead anything that hard!

Comments: I would call this route a sandbag at 5.10a. I felt it was much harder and two other climbers told me they felt it was 5.11a. Regardless of the rating, I really enjoyed the route since it is quite different from the usual face climbing found here. The route has varies and exposed climbing. I thought it would let up near the end when I saw the crack. However, there was nothing inside the crack and the route became a little more desperate at the end, trying to chicken wing inside the crack. D... more >>

Comments: The starting moves are very height dependent. It can be more straight forward for tall people but there are options for us shorter types as well. The movement on this route is great! It feel very fluid and there are a variety of holds so each person can figure out their own best way to climb this route. It is sustained climbing with only a few marginal rests. It builds until you are tired and you find the true crux right near the end of the climb.

Comments: On the main Philippines page, I posted the following: "Please contact me if you would like to add anything to any of the Philippines sections. The vast majority of the information posted comes from climbphilippines.com. The credit goes to them. They have given me permission to repost their information on Mountain Project."

Your description was not replaced, it was modified based on information I was given by other climbers. The information you provided was very helpful, but not... more >>

Comments: Here is a bunch of additional information from about.com Climbing:
climbing.about.com/od/wheretoc...

Carderock, located along the east side of the Potomac River in Maryland just north of Washington DC, is one of the most popular urban climbing areas in the eastern United States. The 25- to 60-foot-high, west-facing cliff offers lots of easy and moderate top-rope routes, with a few harder climbs as well as numerous eliminate... more >>

Comments: I really enjoyed this route. The climbing was varied and sustained, especially at the top. I was able to did a little bit of everything (lie back, hand jams, and finger locks) etc, just in one pitch. There is a roomy belay ledge to bring up your second. Be careful rapping down if using a 60 m rope!

Comments: The crux is getting off the ground. A bit tricky, but safe if your belayer spots you. You can clip the first bolt of Children of a Lesser Grade (use a long runner) to cut down on the run out to the first bolt.

Comments: For gear, I placed a .75 camalot off the ground, 2 #1s, 2 #2s, 2 #3s, 2 #3.5s , and the top can take a #4 if you want to drag it along. Calling this the easiest lead on Maverick may hold true if you have big hands. But since I have small hands, the whole second half of this climb was fists and stacks. Not real easy for me, but one hell of a work out.

Comments: Be warned, the first and second pitch require totally different gear. The first pitch takes nuts and small cams (think yellow alien). The first half of the second pitch takes red #1 camalots, and the upper section of pitch two is yellow camalot size.

Comments: I agree with Roger on this one. The gully is a pain, but it is a nice route. I found the crux to be getting to the third bolt. Maybe I missed something (or I'm short), but I ended up clipping off a crimp.

This is a route where it is better to bring your second up. The view is great! It was much nicer to belay from the large ledge, rather than lowering and belaying in the gully

Comments: Although I will agree that this is not one of the overall top Eldo climbs, I will say that it is a GREAT climb for the grade. Rossiter gives stars to only 16 climbs in the 5.7 range. If you throw out the "S" rated climbs like the Bulge, you are down to only 12 climbs. Many of his other starred routes have received less than favorable reviews here also. So this leaves the 5.7 leader with very few quality choices. I would recommend the Bastille Crack, Rewritten, Verschneidung, and Mescaline o... more >>

Comments: First of all, this climb is an offwidth. If you don't like offwidth, you won't like this climb. However, I thought it was a lot of fun. I was able to climb a lot of it on the outside, and I spent very little time inside the crack.

Based on the description, I brought a 4.5 camalot. Dave mentions that he was not able to place his #4 until the crack narrows and slants up and to the right. Having a 4.5 didn't change this. I put my cam in the same spot Dave mentions. I don't think having... more >>

Comments: This is a great climb that finishes on the summit. More amazing views!!! However, the slabby finish makes for a strenuous rope pull. You can bring people up this climb, but there is no chance that you will top rope this one.

Comments: I just climbed here for the first time yesterday. What a beautiful place. Great rock, short approaches, and a great variety of climbing. The high alpine feel of the area rivals Lumpy Ridge. This is a great destination to beat the heat and crowds of the Front Range. There is also a lot of new route potential for anyone who will take the time and effort to clean and bolt new lines.

The new guide by Tom Perkins, Independence Pass Rock Climbing is a great resource. The book is laid o... more >>

Comments: Great work Bob! Another super route. The climb is delicate, but well protected. When I got through the bottom section, I thought I had it, but the climb was sustained and tricky all the way to the top. Personally, I had a little more trouble in this climb than I had on its neighbor Huck Finn 5.11 c/d.

Comments: This is a great climb, of high quality. An Eldo rarity at this grade. To add to the climb, start on the ground. There is a nice, big flake just slightly downhill from the start of this climb. Climb the flake, sling the tree, and scamper to the ledge with the two dead trees (see the picture on page 136 of Rossiter's new guide). You will be uphill from the two trees he shows crossed at the bottom of his sketch.Climb one more short crack section, and this will deposit you near the base of Your Ba... more >>
