Comments: Susan, to be fair to both Geoff Fullerton (faist) and drjman (guidebook author)... Geoff put up his routes in the area 17- 18 years ago and at the time gave me a detailed topo to the routes (the only copy). I went and did them and thought they were all pretty accurately rated and gave the topos and photos to Troy Mayr for his upcoming guidebook and for whatever reason Troy did not include them, or return the info to me.

When drjman came to me about writing a new guide, I told him about Geoff&@P... more >>

Comments: Does anybody have information on the difficult route across and below the road from where you park for Tunnel Crag? It's the short, slightly overhanging route on beautiful orange rock.

Comments: G Halsne, I haven't been back on Power Grab since the fa. I do remember it being a great route and if the spike needs re-enforcing and you have the skills, please do so. With more than 1,200 fa's in SoCal in dozens of areas, it is impossible for me to be up to date on maintence problems that arise on all my routes, much less have time to go back and fix all of them, while still continuing to develop new routes and new areas. I appreciate your efforts to he... more >>

Comments: Originally we belayed from the top of the boulder in front of the route, but the route was still off to the side of the stance and was awkward location to catch falls. We later would belay below the route in the gully which was better location to belay and catch falls from but involved soloing the slab to the 1st bolt, which was ok when NJC was less popular. A new bolt was placed earlier this season on the slab below what was the 1st bolt.

Comments: Originally, the lower half of this route was climbed back in the 80's by Bruce Bindner.

Bruce's original route, bouldered up to a bolt (Propaganda's second bolt) and then left past a hook for pro and then up and left to the crack / v notch to the top.

Comments: We went back and repeated this route a couple of months after the fa. It's a fantastic route on basically perfect New Jack rock. Mini crux passing the 1st bolt, good slab climbing up to a steep finish (crux). Well worth going to, deserves more stars.

Comments: Sam and I climbed, named and installed the top anchors, when we put in the other main routes on the wall in the early 90's. However, given that it is a short, easy crack with a walk off, it is unclear if we did the fa.

Comments: I'm so confused.... Things were happening so fast in the beginning, new routes going in daily. And my memory isn't what it used to be.

Origionally, I thought I remembered having some (minor?) involvement in that route... And rating it 5.9, don't remember what it was called. Then later hearing it was called " A Large Bag...." I was somewhat confused because I thought that was what Brad had called his route on Roadside West.

Then last year or so, some guy, can't remember his user name posted th... more >>

Comments: Seems like Andy has given a fair assessment of the grade. On the fa I rated it 12c/d. For what ever reason, when it came out in the guide book it was rated 12d. When Tom Linder did it, he thought it was soft at 12d, and he is right. But for my own reasons, when ever somebody starts spraying/ complaining about grades, I just think to myself FU and then sandbag the rating. I tried to change my 12b/c to a 12c but the site wouldn't let me make the change. Solid 12c seems to be a fair rating. You Don... more >>

Comments: The whole area/ hillside is called The Cliffs Of Insanity. The three routes drawn in are Geoff Fullerton's routes and are all about the same, 5.10a/b range. The formation to the right with the cave half way up is The Watchtower, with The Action, 13a ascending thru, just right of the middle of the cave. On The Watchtower, left of The Action, on the lower angle face is another long easy 5.10 Fullerton route. To the left of the drawn in routes, and to the right of The DX, there is another formation... more >>

Comments: I didn't really name this wall. It's in a newer area called The Land That Time Forgot, up in the wilderness area, below a hanging valley near the top of the hill. There is about 20 newer routes in the area, but I haven't gotten around to posting route info.
